Router UDP Flooding

My folks recently got a new router from Blekin. http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProd...oduct_Id=184316

The problem is that not I get 50% continous packet loss whenever I play Counter-Strike or any other games on Steam. The wierdest thing is the loss only seemed to effect Steam games, and not others such as World of Warcraft.

I did some tests on my system, and discovered that my UDP ports consistantly timout when recieving data, but it sends data fine, (thus the reason for the 50% loss)

My question is, how can i repair my router so that it can recieve data through UDP ports? Are there settings in Windows I need to manage, or any other programs that will patch it up?

**edit**

Few things I forgot to mention:

1) Im not connected wireless. It goes from the modem, to the router, then to my computer.

2) If I take the router off the connection (in other words go from the modem directly to my computer) I do not get any loss whatsoever, so thats how i know its a router problem.

3) Ive tried disabling the routers security, firewall, and even placed myself outside the NAT firewall (DMZ) and I still get loss, so I know its not a port setting problem, its getting the system to be able to read my UDP ports.

Re: Router UDP Flooding

Checked XP's firewall?
Start->Control Panel->Network Connections->select your network adaptor
Click Properties
Click the Advanced tab
Either uncheck the Firewall check box or click the Settings button and add each port manually.
If you choose to open them in the XP firewall, the you can use portforward.com and click on Common Ports scroll down and find Half-Life 2 Steam and look at which ports need to be opened for UDP and TCP... and there are a lot of them.

Re: Router UDP Flooding

TTL(Time To Live) might be doing it, just a guess. TTL
regulates how many hosts a packet can go throu before
some router choices not to forward it, hence to goes
to the void.... This is only for TCP. I am assuming by
stream you mean TCP. These are just guess's, I
have not a clue, Not Enough Info.... Please run
these commands and post the resultes.

(google.com or some host for reference, ISP website, etc.)
tracert google.com
ping google.com

Re: Router UDP Flooding

Does Your Router Have an Access Control List you can modify? Some ports are blocked for system security reasons. You might find that the WPA system doesn't like the UDP packets coming through as they could be classed as unauthorised traffic.
Just a thought. need more info.
