Re: Anti-virus
I'm not following, you scan your p.c and it shows what? I'm assuming no problems are detected. If there are itll prompt you to repair or delete.
If your using XP, just check your security center to see if its running in real-time and downloading updates on a regular basis. If so, all is cool.

Re: Anti-virus
Depends what you are using.
Norton/symantic? McAfee? Some other brand?
Micro soft is working on an anti-spyware/firewall. It's in the beta phase right now. But looks promising.
But most programs will steer you in the right direction if something is found.

Re: Anti-virus
AVG is the best bet for free virus scanner, very comparable
to other comercial scaners. Virus scanners only detect a small
margin of the total virus's on the internet. Get a good comercial
firewall and AVG would secure your system greatly, I suggest the
one put out by norton (few variations). Norton will prevent outgoing
connections of unknown programs, hence voiding most functions of
trojans. Virus's on the other hand is best be left to virus scanner.
Redoing your permisions that java/vb scripts can operate will
void this completly. Also never execute from untrusted/unknown/etc.
poeple, websites, etc. Always scan it first.
btw: I have not got a virus/trojan in years that had any chance...
Trojan : 1. Named for the trojan war, a peace offering of sorts,
a wooden horse carrying the best Soldiers took refuge
inside of it. When the enemy guards where sleeping
they opened the gate letting their army in...
2. A Program that hides execution of possably
Dangerous code from the use. (sending personal info)
Virus, : 1. Named from biology.
2. A script that replicates itself/spreads across
networks/computers exploiting a known hole in the
OS or other Program.

Re: Anti-virus
3 best anti-virus FREE programs
AVG (already linked)
Avast http://www.avast.com/
AntiVir http://www.free-av.com/
And if you're smart you would add SpywareBlaster to that list of things you use Clemy. It helps keep the bad guys out while surfing....although mostly effective with IE users but still should be used even by FF users, or any other browser.

Re: Anti-virus
I run Symantic/norton system works premiere 2005. Spybot Adaware and even though I only have one pc I still run it through my router.
That Norton stuff adds a ton of processes though.
