Best DVD Copying Software

I picked up a 16x DVD R-W drive some time ago, and I figure it's about time I made use of it and made copies of the few DVD movies I own. I have one DVD drive, and a bunch of blank single layer discs to use.

What, in your opinion, is the best software for the task?

DVD Shrink is all you need.
it allows you to reauthor and even reduce the files enough to get 2 movies on one disk.

DVD Shrink and Nero - DVD Shrink will open the DVD and allow you to do some customizing (compressing or replacing titles with still images) or re-authoring.

Nero is used for the burn process (or back-up process if you will).

Awesome software duo. Have been using it for almost a year now... Never even tried DVD Decrypter even though I downloaded it when I did DVD Shrink.

Good luck... Can't wait for dual-layer DVD-R prices to drop!

I decrypt them to my hard disk.. then use Shrink and nero to burn.

Or You can just use shrink and nero, but i like to put them to the hard disc first.

Re: Best DVD Copying Software

The only problem with DVD Decryptor and DVD Shrink is that they are dead, basicly.
DVD Decryptor shut down for legal reasons, while DVD Shrink closed it's doors because they gave up on it.

You can still search and find them online at some sites.

ShrinkTo5 http://www.shrinkto5.com/ is said to be just as good as DVD Shrink, plus it is still being updated. However, like DVD Shrink it does not include any decrypting features which you will need for most feature film DVDs. ShrinkTo5 does support a plug-in that does decrypt the CSS which you can get here http://www.riphelp.com/downloads/shrinkto5.html

Re: Best DVD Copying Software

Did some testing with DVDShrink on some episode series DVDs I wanted to backup, but the results were very bad due to the high compression it had to achieve to make it fit on a single DVDR. It worked fine for much smaller movies that required very much less compression.

Found a much better but lengthier alternative. Using a combo of DVD-Decrypter, DVD-Rebuilder, and HCEncoder (all freeware), I was able to shrink the 8GBs of movie on the DVD down to 4.3GB with no obvious difference in quality. It took around 6 hours to fully encode, so I left it on overnight, but the results were well worth it.

Well with a lot of TV shows on DVD there are lots of extras, use DVD Shrink to remove those, then the compression isn't nearly as much.
