Unmountable_boot_volume...... Help!!!
OK heres my problem When I try to start up my computer i get a message saying that windows wont start up properly and i get these options:
Start windows In safe Mode
" " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " With networking
" " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " With Command Promt
Start Windows With Last Known Good Configurations
Start Windows Normally.
None of these work!
What Happens is Winows begins to start Up and then Comes to a blue Screen Saying UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME. and at the bottom it has:
*** STOP: 0x000000ED (0x80E90E30,0xC0000032, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
Ive Read Up on websites on how to fix this problem but none of the suggestions work, for example Hitting "R" at setip then rebooting through the WinXP disc, by entering "Chkdsk /p" this wont work as 1: I dont have the installer disc, therefore meaning I have to put in "Chkdsk /r" instead. and 2: before i can hit R it coes up with the choices i mentioned above, then when ive picked a choice and windows begins to load i hit R and nothing happens until it goes back to the blue screen.
Also tried other methods such as hitting F4, F8 and F12. No matter what i do i cant enter setup or Windows Revovery Console.
You guys got any advice short of replaceing my hard drive or RAM? cheerz.

Re: Unmountable_boot_volume...... Help!!!
Try this first: open up the case, unplug all the wires that are connected to the harddrive. Plug them back in real snug and see what happens. For some reason this past week alone (and not at all before) my comp just froze up twice, nothing worked until I did just what I described. The error message is something you might be able to look up on the windows website becasue it does actualy mean something. I belive its saying a hardware error, but I don't have a clue, just type in each number seperatly and that should work.
Unmountable boot volume is definately a harddrive problem, so I don't see what replacing the RAM would do.

Re: Unmountable_boot_volume...... Help!!!
If there is a command prompt option. Type chkdsk and hit enter.
This will scan the disk for errors. and tell you if you have bad sectors on the hard drive.
you can also type chkdsk/f which will afix the problems it might find. But it wont fix bad sectors.

Sadly it sounds like your hard drive is pushing up daisies OR your controller card is.
You want to get a new hard drive, install windows on it and attempt to copy the data over.
Sorry.

Re: Unmountable_boot_volume...... Help!!!
Have you changed anything in your BIOS that would affect the HDD tables. Like flashing the BIOS or unsetting the IDE HDD AUTODETECT to something else? Check to make sure that the HDD you use as a boot device is set to master on the jumper switches and the IDE cable is in the primary IDE slot of your machine. Once all this is checked you should theoretically be able to boot from that device.
If the above fails try putting your hdd into a mates machine and see if it boots up there. If so then you can conclude that your HDD controller is shitting bricks and you'll need to see you board manufacturer about that problem.
If all else fails then you might have to resort to a full format including the Master Boot Record. If a virus has got in here then that is the only real option you have to getting your computer back up and running. There are plenty of sources you can use to get spoofed copies of xp pro if you're not into forking out a couple'a hundred for a real version. Bearing in mind that spoofed versions are nowhere near as stable as the real thing. Hope I was able to help.

Re: Unmountable_boot_volume...... Help!!!
Run scandisk on it, use the boot cdrom.
Also, I dont know about XP but try to get into a dos prompt on xp and
type this:
fdisk /mbr
and try it...
btw: reinstalls master boot record to first ide device
