Concealed Carry Gun Permit Saves a Life

Wal-Mart shooting was first under concealed carry permit
By ASSOCIATED PRESS
August 30, 2005
ALBUQUERQUE (AP) - A fatal shooting at an Albuquerque Wal-Mart last week was the state's first by someone with a concealed-carry gun permit, authorities said.
Police said Felix Vigil was attacking his ex-wife with a knife near the store's deli counter where she worked when an armed customer intervened and shot him. The woman, Joyce Cordova, was treated for multiple stab wounds and later released from an Albuquerque hospital.
The armed customer, 72-year-old Due Moore, was interviewed after the shooting last Thursday and released.
Police spokeswoman Officer Trish Hoffman said it appeared the shooting was justified. However, it will be up to the district attorney to decide whether Moore, a volunteer with the police department's cold case unit, will be prosecuted.
Moore could not be reached for comment.
New Mexico allows citizens age 21 and over to carry concealed weapons if they complete firearms training and pass national and local criminal background checks.
Moore's fatal shot was the first fired by someone with a permit, according to state Department of Public Safety spokesman Peter Olson. The state has issued more than 3,100 permits since the gun law went into effect Jan. 1, 2004.
Moore took a class to get his permit just 13 days after the law went into effect, said Cody Patton, a manager at Calibre's National Shooters Sports Center in Albuquerque. That's where Moore was certified.
"He was the fourth person ever to sign up for a permit," Patton said. "I've now done more than 300 of them."
Patton said there has been a fair amount of interest in concealed-carry permits at his range _ in particular during the first four months after the law passed.
|
So this proves that CCW's do help with the proper training and background checks. Also, it proves that people over 65 can still hold their own.
GOOD JOB!!!!!

That right there is why I wanna get a concealed-carry permit. Not because I'm a parinoid gun-happy freak, but because you never know when shit's gonna get real.

Re: Concealed Carry Gun Permit Saves a Life
Showed this article to my father-in-law. He was actually surprised that it took New Mexico that long to allow the permits. He currently carried a permit so that he can keep a gun on him while out camping. (we live in an area with some dangerous animals) He is also in the same age group as Moore, in his late fifties. I wonder Moore served in the military? Quite a few of the older people that I have met that carry permits, are also retired military.

Re: Concealed Carry Gun Permit Saves a Life
There was a guy in Tyler TX with a CCP that tried to stop a shooter after he had lost his court case, and started shooting people in the courtroom.
He shot him 6 times in the chest but the shooter was wearing a vest and so it didn't kill him
The shooter then shot the guy with the CCP like 10 times or something

What a shame head shots aren't allowed.

i'm calling bs on this story cause at least here in ohio you can't even bring a gun into the courthouse if you are a cop that isn't stationed at the courthouse

Re: Concealed Carry Gun Permit Saves a Life
So the dude saved a life by sacrificing his own. That's DAMNED noble. Specially going 9mm vs an AK-47...I'd hesitate myself on that one.

Damn straight. Not a paranoid monkey myself, but still, better prepared. I'm actually shocked that the court is even considering prosecuting the "savior". It would seem like he'd be thought better of than this.

Dunno bout Ohio, but here in Georgia any LEO is allowed to carry in public buildings. I've had a CCW for over a year now, public buildings...such as court houses, gov't type buildings, public gatherings, sport events, and church gatherings are the only places im not allowed to carry. I'm totally behind CCW's, people have a right to bear arms and defend themselves.

Re: Concealed Carry Gun Permit Saves a Life
I had a CCW in Indiana, you didn't need to do shit to get it.
Fill out like a half page application at the PD. Get a $20 money order, and send it off to the state police office.. two weeks later, my permit arived via US Mail.

I have never heard that a head shot wasn't allowed. At least not in Oklahoma. If deadly force is necessary, use it.

It happened outside the courtroom. The guy used an SKS, and shot his wife and was about to shoot his son when Mark Wilson shot him 6 times and got shot himself. The police said that there's no question that Mark's action saved the son's life.
