Help me understand Port forwarding?
I dont think ive grasped this yet, although it seems easy enough. Maybe my setup is just more confusing, but any help would be great. I have a linksys wireless router connected to the cable modem. I also have it split with a linksys router in my room. I really wanna understand the basics first, then figure out if my two router thing is possible or what. Ive turned off windows firewall, so hopefully im just dealing with this hardware, although as I mention later the windows system might be the problem.
With just 1 router:
I have an IP from my Cable company. Lets just say 69.69.96.96.
Lets say Router #1s IP is 192.168.1.1.
So when I need to forward 6118 UDP, do I forward to 69.69.96.96 or 192.168.1.1?
Whats with the range? I guess I can go from 6110 to 6119. But if its just one number do I put it in the same twice?
With 2 routers;
This is where im really confused, and it may not even work anyways.
My PC is behind two routers and the program says forward 6118 UDP.
If router 2 is 192.168.1.2 how would that work with router #1?
Is this possible? Something is and isnt working;
Im trying to run Azureus, a Torrent program. Oddly enough it ran fine from my mac with no router setup. It wont connect to anything on my pc. They are both behind the two routers and I havnt forwarded anything yet. Id rather use my desktop to run this, not my laptop, so fixing this is in favorable interest.
I want to understand forwarding. But im also wondering if this a windows config problem first, since the mac system is getting through. Any help woudl be great!

Re: Help me understand Port forwarding?
@tuathal
Good site, I was going to list that.
@Goya
When you port forward, you're doing to the IP address of the computer that is connected to the router, not the router itself.
So if your computer's IP address on the router is 192.168.1.100 and you want to open port 21 for it so it can allow people to connect to an FTP server running on your system.
Then you would go into your router and to it's port forward settings to set port 21 to 192.168.1.100
You're behind 2 routers??!!?? Should I even ask why? At any rate
What you would do then, still using the example of port 21 and your system is 192.168.1.100. Your router1 (R1) is 192.168.1.1 and router2 (R2) is 192.168.1.2.
In R1's port forward settings, get port 21 to R2's IP address, and in R2's port forward settings set port 21 to your system's IP address.
In theroy you could also set R2's IP address in the DMZ of R1, then you would only have to worry about port forwarding ports in R2 to the systems connected to R2.
