Re: computer help

Sir:
Download the free editions of Lavasoft Ad-aware and Spybot search and destroy for spyware clean ups, purchase Trend Micro PC-cillin, run defrag and clean up tools.
If you can find it, also use End it all to find and maybe shut down unnecessary back ground programs that are running.
I found end it all on that TV show site, I can't remember the name, the one with Leo and the girls, pretty good show.
Good luck, Traverse Tramp

Re: computer help

I like spubot a lot. Go to the advanced view and then tools. Look at system startup and see what is really loading. Get rid of the "helper" programs for real player, acrobat reader, etc. Look in your system tray. I have 5 icon including my AV, and the router monitor. Oh, get rid of any HP printer monitors. They are hogs.

Re: computer help

System Mechanic has a pretty good registry cleaner as well as a lot of other tools. I'm not sure about v6, but earlier versions were fully-functioning for a 30-day trial. If you uninstalled them and also removed all the Iolo (their corporate name) entries from your registry and rebooted, you could reinstall it for another 30 days. Repeat as desired.

I haven't tried that with v6, but if you only need to give your registry one thorough cleaning to get it back in shape, even one 30-day use period will let you do that. You can probably find older versions online in warez sites, too, in case the remove-and-reinstall no longer works with v6.

MS also makes a small utility called RegClean. It's unsupported, but it's nothing you'd need tech support for anyway. I've used it with Win 95, ME, and XP. It makes backup copies that you can use to undo whatever it do, er, does. It just takes a couple of minutes to run and if it finds anything it needs to fix, the "Fix" button is enabled. Otherwise, you just exit. I'd still go for System Mechanic or one of the other programmes like that as your main registry cleaner, but also get RegClean from the MS downloads site and run it, too.

HTH.
