transferring files to new comp

i just got a new comp. whats the best way to transfer my files from my old comp to the new one? im using a router with an ethernet cable to hook to the net if thats any help.

If its XP, theres a software wizard on it for doing that
Click start,all programs,accessories,system tools,files and settings transfer wizard.
This will create a disk for ya thatll keep all your old files & settings.

today i transfer shit to a new pc. I just bought a crossover cable, and dragged and dropped.
