Dvd Burner. Looking to Adjust burn speed?

click on one of our sponsors! OR REMOVE ADS
my burner (Hp dvd630e) says it will burn 16x discs. However when it starts the burn, writing the lead in, it stalls out. I just did a whole ton of burns on 8x discs without a problem. So my question is, what is going on with the burner? And is there a way to make it so it will burn at 8x even tho the dvd's are 16x?

Thanks for your help.

oh yeah. I have nero and everytime i set the speed..(Get system info) it goes back to the default settings.

If I go to the control Drive speed there isnt a option for write speed. getting frustrated.

Is there something im totally overlooking?

It should ask you what speed prior to starting the burn process, at least mine does. Oh and it's NERO as well.
