Re: NBA predictions 2006
Where to start.... stop dreaming you lakers' fan(?). Lakers win the championship next season in the western conference stacked with quality big man and you relying on Kwame Brown? Kg/Duncan/Amare/Yao will be stopped by who? And Kobe and Phil will definately get along really well of course (sarcasm). I'm no ruling them out completely; they do have a shot because of kobe bryant/Odom/phil and the potential of kwame but they are very far long shots.
Shaq will miss half the season? Um... where is that coming from? Shaq's motivated as hell and probably won't let himself fall grossly out of shape; its a possibility but as a prediction.... idk. Personally i think they might have had a fair shot at the trophy last season if both there star players hadn't gotten injured.
Andrew Bogut... hmmm i think he'll crack double figures in points but not in rebounds; doesn't seem athletic enough to me. I agree that chris paul will definitely be impressive but i'm favoring nate robinson as a longshot for the RoY because of his killer play in the summer leagues.
I think the main contenders in the east this year will be the NJ nets (provided they get the trade done with the blazers they will have an impressive starting 5), The pacers (artest back, everyone healthy with additions of the King of Europe+danny granger), the Heat (Eddie Jones for Jwill, antoine walker and posey was a sick trade and Shaq's ego should stop any chemistry problems) and of course the Detroit Pistons (Flips gives them new life).
The West will be the SA Spurs (defending champs will all their important players back), Pheonix Suns (Joe Johnson leaving will be a blow but they'll still be in the hunt), The Rockets (Stromile Swift crucial to their hopes) and the Denver Nuggets (hope George Karl's magic doesn't wear off).
Being a rockets fan and therefore biased, I think T-mac is going to have a huge season this year esp if Nick Van Exel goes to Houston because he hasn't really gelled with Yao yet and when they do, with Swift on board i think he's going to be a monster.
Please disagree if you think my opinions are delusional

Re: NBA predictions 2006
well, I think too the Lakers will make the playoffs, but not go far. However, give the team a few years and they will be winning titles again. they started a youth movement 10 years ago and worked themselves into champs. they can't win every year, but they do have the history of success. I really haven't thought much about who are the contenders this year, and who aren't.

Re: NBA predictions 2006
Shaq WILL miss half the season, mark my words. And i think that Detroit will fall drastically from last season.. maybe 6th or 7th in Eastern conference. I do agree that Indiana will be one of the big dogs in the East. But don't count out Chicago.
As for Nick Van Exel.... I love that guy... I grew up watching him on the Lakers. BUT, he's too old and had too many consecutive bust-seasons. He's definitely not going to start... and won't make much of a difference. T-Mac needs to count on Yao a little bit more this coming season. He can't always do it all himself (I think he's the biggest ball hog in the league) well it doesn't matter anyways, Lakers will be getting Yao in a couple of years.
I forgot to mention Gerald Green. I think he's going to be a top 5 rookie this year. He's going to win the slam dunk contest. And he's going to be Rookie game MVP (rookies will win)

Re: NBA predictions 2006
lol counting out Dwight/Gordon/Emeka/AI the second and more that quickly? As for the dunk contest? I think Josh Smith will have something to stop that.
Lakers getting Yao? No way, Yao stresses loyalty and other stuff over a bit more money/fame. He's already a hero in his home country and in China he once turned down more money from a rival team to play with his original one. Only if the Chinese govt orders him to/houston doesn't want him will he go and i don't think thats going to happen.
Van Exel is a true pointgaurd which will take off some of the playmaking burden off T-mac. Plus the rockets have a deep rotation of Sura, Mike James, Wesley and probably barry as well, not to mention luther head in reserve so he won't be required to play major minutes,

Re: NBA predictions 2006
My prediction... the NBA will continue to be the biggest waste of TV space EVER. This league is dominated by way too many arrogant young players who do not respect the game or its history and is analyzed by the same type (think Stephen A. Smith). NBA games are boring. Period. NBA highlights on SportsCenter are boring. Period. Once you've seen one Vince Carter dunk, you've seen them all. 99% of the players in the league can do it, showing Shaq catch a pass from outside, turn towards the basket, and drop it down from his awesome 12 inch vert is not exciting. Too much of the time a team's possession will be ended prematurely by a non-team oriented player trying to make an impossible shot from 20ft.
While it takes alot for me to watch even college basketball (unless I'm going to my school's games) I refuse to watch the NBA. Period.

Re: NBA predictions 2006
Oh yeah... and these guys get paid WAY too much. Make the game full contact, and then maybe Garnett will have earned half of his $28mil/year or Shaq's $20mil (and remember, this after he was set to earn over 30, before taking a cut).
The NBA is ridiculous and I can't stand it.

Re: NBA predictions 2006
What sports do you consider no rediculous?
If you can say that Vince Carter's dunk contest slams of 2000 were boring then fine. If you can't understand the talent Shaq has and view it as that simple then fine. Yup because everybody jacks up those impossible shots from 20 feet which is oh so far away from the basket. You would know, since you don't watch NBA games.
Antoine Walker, Marbury, AI (but he converts a decent amount of them), sure they do have bad shot selection but every sport has its up and downs? You find the NBA boring? Its your opinion but then tell us what sport you enjoy watching and why its better?

Re: NBA predictions 2006
I do admit that the league has gone down since the Jordan era. And the Larry Bird/Magic Johnson rivalries. But you just can't get bored watching the Lakers and Kobe Bryant. He is the most phenomenal player of the last 10 years. Duncan and the Spurs...now THEY are boring. Every finals without the Lakers of the past 7 years have been the lowest rated finals in history. Some teams just don't have the excitement.
ANYWAY... this is about predictions. So... yeah, I do predict that the rookies will beat the Sophmores. This sophmore class just doesn't impress like the year that preceded them (LeBron, Carmelo, Bosh...) Nobody has really exploded into a star, not Emeka, not Iguodala, not Josh Smith (but maybe Ben Gordan). Guys like Andrew Bogut can easily go heads up with MEKE. Marvin Williams, Danny Granger, CHRIS PAUL, Charlie Villanueva, Gerald Green, and even Andrew Bynum with his size....these guys spell excitement and multiple All-Star players of the future.

Re: NBA predictions 2006
Your Lakers fanboyism is extreme. Andrew Bynum spell multiple all-stars? Charlie Villenieuva over EMeka/Dwight/Ben Gordon? Have you seen any of Villeieuva's games in college? He's soft as hell; he would get destroyed by dwight. Oh wait, Andrew Bogut got destroyed in the summer league in some games by centers who were fighting to earn a roster spot. He's goign to immediately kill Meke huh? Maybe after time but this year? No way.
And you're going to say a class doesn't have excitement after one year? Ben Gordon is already a star. You know the Flash and Bosh weren't really stars until there second year. Emeka is doubled/tripled in almost every game he plays and he still puts up those stats.
Kobe Bryant the most phenomal player of the last ten years? First of all it would still be MJ because he was playing in 95-8. What do you mean by phenomenal? Shaq would probably be over Bryant for most people if it meant Most dominating/awesome. Hey I really enjoy watching Bryant hog the ball for 40 minutes and attempt all these crazy shots which he makes once in a few years, pass only to prove that he's unselfish and end up losing. Now thats so much more fun than seeing the Spurs play the game like its supposed be played, seeing Manu ginobli's exciting drive ins. Nope thats boring. Kobe's good for some highlights; thats it.
The only reason people watch more when the lakers are on because the franchise is in LA. I could move the Spurs the LA and the ratings would immediately go up and you would start raving about how amazing TDuncan and Ginoblie are :D

Re: NBA predictions 2006
Ginobili's amazing drive ins didn't save the ratings, sorry. Most phenomenal of the last ten years, meaning to come into the league in that time span. of course no one tops jordan. the only handful of other players that you can make a case for are McGrady, Carter, Nash, Iverson, Norwitsky, and LeBron. And Kobe still tops that group.
and please, do not move the spurs to LA, because they're too clean for us.
and sorry, I didn't mean to add Andrew Bynum into the group of future all-stars. =P
I hate nicknames like "the flash" let's just call him Dwyane Wade. And he was already a star in his first year. Much, much better in his first year than Gordan's.
Most dominating/awesome... Shaq peaked out in the Laker's first championship of late (99-00) and he has yet to come close to how dominating he WAS. I just wish you could have seen every game of that season like I did, it was a massacre every night. Shaq will not win another championship. I love that guy though.
Danny Granger over Iguodala
Marvin Williams over Ben Gordan
Gerald Green over Josh Smith
Chris Paul all over the league

Re: NBA predictions 2006
Got to give the King some time mate. I mean 25/7/7 in his second year. Rediculous
The flash is a cool name. His first year was not better than Ben Gordon's. Wade did well in the playoffs and not much else. Gordon became the first rookie to win the 6th man of the year. As for your rookie over sophomore predictions i can't really say because i don't think so but i can't prove it since there's no hard evidence. Lets just see what happens.
Shaq WILL win another championship as long as Antoine and Jwill know there place

Re: NBA predictions 2006
What are you talkin about, of course Dwyane Wade was better in his firt year than Gordon :
Wade - 16 ppg, 5 ast, 4 rb, 1.5 stl
Gordon - 15 ppg, 2 ast, 3 rb, 0.6 stl
Another NBA prediction is that Caron Butler will become an all star at washington.

Re: NBA predictions 2006
you're just looking at the stats however. Remember Wade got heavy playing minutes while on the heat + he was there premier gaurd. Bgordon was a 6th man with less time on a more talented roster that went 4th in the Eastern Conference and he had a much bigger impact on the league.

Re: NBA predictions 2006
no, all Gordon really did this season was give the Bulls a bench scorer. Dwayne Wade was already improving everyone around him in his first year. and with his less talented team, they got further in the playoffs than Chicago this last year. AND Dwyane Wade stepped up his game in the playoffs, Gordon never really improved for the crunch time.
