Korn began mixing their new, as-yet-untitled album yesterday. The band is putting the finishing touches on its follow-up to 2003's Take a Look in the Mirror with producers The Matrix (Liz Phair, Avril Lavigne) and Atticus Ross (Nine Inch Nails, Bad Religion). Frontman Jonathan Davis has said the album, due out in the fall, is their most experimental yet.

It's going to be weird not having Heads touch on the new album. Munky must have had to put in quite a bit of overtime. I'm looking forward to it as I always am. No matter how good or bad it is, I will wear out the cd.

KORN frontman Jonathan Davis has confirmed that the band have hired former OTEP guitarist Rob Patterson to play guitar for the band on their upcoming European tour. In a posting on his ButtSexCrips.com web site, Davis writes, "We hired Rob Patterson to play guitar for the European dates but he will not be on stage. We don't want to use samples or tape, 'cause that would suck. We are not ready to have a new guy on stage with us. This is for the first Europe run only. We have some new exciting ideas on how we are gonna play live in the future and I am sure it will blow your mind."

KORN are currently mixing their new album with producer Terry Date (DEFTONES, PANTERA, SOULFLY) for a tentative October release. "Mixing is going great," Davis writes. "13 songs done and they sound fucking amazing." Matrix (AVRIL LAVIGNE, THE MOONEY SUZUKI) and Atticus Ross (BAD RELIGION, PINK) were responsible for most of the production duties on the follow-up to 2003's "Take a Look in the Mirror", with only one track from the band's sessions with Dallas Austin slated to appear on the effort. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Liar", "Politix", "Last Legal Drug", "Le Petit Mort", "It's Me Again", "Coming Undone", "I've Seen It All" and "Souvenir of Sadness".

KORN's last release, "Greatest Hits, Vol. 1" (Immortal/Epic), featuring highlights from the first 10 years of the band's recording career, has sold 930,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

As previously reported, KORN are close to inking a new record deal with EMI/Virgin, according to Hits Daily Double, the companion web site of music industry tip sheet HITS. The proposed deal is said to be for two albums and a one-third interest in the band's publishing, merchandising and ticket sales as part of a new contractual model, a la Robbie Williams. The fine points are being hammered out by attorney Gary Stiffelman and manager Jeff Kwatinetz on the band's side of the table, and by EMI North America head David Munns in tandem with Virgin topper Matt Serletic.
