Donnie Darko

I just watched the directors cut of Donnie Darko. That movie was so cool. The philosophy behind the movie is so cool. My thought is that Donnie was talking to his version of God whenever he was speaking to Frank the bunny rabbit.

That is why all the crazy things Frank had Donnie do still turned out allright. Like burning down the kiddie porn ring and flooding the school. God let him save his girlfriend at the end of the movie at the cost of his own life. God made Donnie give his life to save the life of his girlfriend. Pretty deep I think. The coolest part about it was that Donnie made the decision knowing what was going to happen.

What did you all think of the movie?

Re: Donnie Darko

Yeah, you kinda need to do a little research if you want to see the bigger picture. But the movie is freaking awesome, one of my favorites, and all though it was kinda creepy the first time I saw it, I think it was mostly because it made me go "Wha?!?" at the end of it. Once I looked beyond the weird, psuedo-druggie visions he had, and saw what they really meant, it was kinda like "Damn... that is good..."

I know I sound sappy and cliche, but it really was a thought provoking movie. Highly reccomended.

Great fricking movie. I don't know about the God thing, but I suppose with a movie of that nature, it's completely open to anyone's interpretation unless the writer and director tell you otherwise.

Re: Donnie Darko

Yea, it's a great film. Honestly I didn't understand it wholely the first couple times I saw it. They added a bunch of stuff in the director's cut that helps piece it together, some of it unnecessary, but altogether it's somewhat thought-provoking and definitely a great cult film. Lots of symbolism, but it's extremely well done.

Re: Donnie Darko

I love the movie, but I actually think the Director's Cut ruins it.

Re: Donnie Darko

This is prolly my favorite movie of all time. The plot is so much cooler after you read all the extra material.

edit* how does the directors cut ruin it?

I rented it the other day, but haven't watched it yet.

I will watch it first before returning to this thread and reading it.

Re: Donnie Darko

I don't really like some of the cut scenes they add in the Director's Cut, and they changed some of the music (like the opening scene and a couple other places) for the worst. Some of the added footage makes it seem like it's something it's not, or they're trying too hard or something. I thought it was great the way they had it to begin with.

I forget to come back to this after watching it...

It was ok, not great, definitely wasn't what I was expecting.

Re: Donnie Darko

Probably my favorite movie. Is the writer/director Richard Kelly going to ever make any other projects??
