My home PC is quite used to tripping on sudden blackouts that we have in our locality every once in a while(I have been a lazy ass and haven't bought a UPS for it as its an old geyser running P-III, 800Mhz...something like that)
...but 2 days back after it tripped, it got all screwed up. Won't boot even in safe mode....tried everything and gave up. Next day morning, it booted up (dont ask me how) but all applications that need TCP/IP were throwing errors (Dr. Watson shit). Disabled all those apps (Zone Alarms, YM, Skype) and rebooted, went into BIOS to load default values (As the time was all screwed up) and rebooted again. It boots now, (takes an aweful long time though), gets IP from the DHCP (my wireless router) (ipconfig shows IP) but it unable to ping the DHCP server even. Internet Explorer is not working at all (not even the set up page of Router)
In the device manager its showing me two "unknown" devices under Ethernet adpaters (apart from my usual NIC), which I am now allowed to uninstall.
I do have the W2K CD and know that I can re-install OS on C drive (Most of my data is in D drive, which is a partition on same disk) but is that the only way....and is there a chance I may lose data in this process?? Another shitty thing is that have no drivers (the PC was given to me by someone else and all he gave me was W2K CD but no drivers on CD nor on disk).
Don't tell me I am fucked......ok tell me, if you must
(At least I can chat with some expert here during weekend on YM using my laptop that I am writing this from. Somebody willing to help me over YM can let me know that via a PM)
