Re: What is the bible to you?

It's really easy to pass judgments on something that you haven't investigated yourself, as seen by many people on this thread.

I can only recommend a literary class on the Bible before anyone makes any judgments.

I agree...I so far have several years of catholic school under my belt and a theology class from college....It is my choice not to believe in the bible but I will NEVER debate it...It is faith...I will not try to dissuades someone's faith.

So, that is why I think the bible is fiction. It was written by man. You can not argue the fact that it was written by man. Man experience the world, and wrote it down as he saw it.

Not entirely true...alot of those writings are said to be inspired by "The Holy Spirit". St. Catherine Emmerich lived in the 18th century I believe, (correct me if I'm wrong Aquadude ) and she wrote extensively about the Passion of Christ. I highly doubt she lived for 1800 years and experienced these events herself...

Well even if they are inspired by a holy spirit, they are still originally written by man. Even if an angel came down and shot a bolt of lightning at a stone table, and boom, theres a book of the bible, that original story has been translated again and again by man.

Re: What is the bible to you?

The Bible, as we know it, was written in the Middle Ages 500 years after Christ by the Romans.

Nice link about the Middle Ages.

Re: What is the bible to you?

I suggest reading The DaVinci Code
It sheds some interesting light on Christianity and was a very very good read

Re: What is the bible to you?

To me the Bible is the word of God as told through men that he directed. It is a recorded history of what he wants us to know. It is not a complete and total record of the world history but of the things he wanted us to know about. Many people take some things in the bible literal and other things they take out of context. That is why there is some many different interpetations of it's word and meaning. MAN is the problem not the word that is written.

Well anyways, like I said I do believe that it is the word of God. If you do not share my beliefs that is ok, I will still pray for you anyways

He summed up my feelings pretty easily. I'm not the greatest practitioner of Christianity but the Bible is as good as God's word.

Re: What is the bible to you?

Some of it i take as gospel truth, others im sure were exaggerated (wasnt Goliath 9 cubits tall? thats like 15 feet). Im not the mostreligious person, but i do read my bible for direction. I take it as more of a manual to get you through life circumstances.
