I don't know how to explain this, without being called names, but I don't like the types of music that most Mexicans play. Bandas, and Mariachi, I think that's how you spell it, are the two that I know of, mainly because that is what my dad, and family listen too. Why don't I like it? I don't know, I just don't. Why don't I like Spinach? I don't know, I just don't.

I know there are numerous types of Spanish music, and I don't listen to it, or look for it, because I don't understand it, and to me, if you can't understand it, what's to enjoy.

I hope I didn't incriminate myself too bad.

Re: dislike of a genre of music = racism?

My comment about country being the bastard child of good music is just a little bit of humor. Read the whole sentence again. Saying it's been scientifically proven should have put up a red flag for you. And second, I was just using Toby Keith as an example. My dad likes country. When I was a kid, he would have it on in the car or at home. I have heard much more than just his music, and I still don't like it.

I stand by saying that claiming not liking a genre of music is like racism is absolutely redonculous. Look at it this way. There are alot of different genres. They are all individuals in part of the same group: music. In life, there are alot of different people. They are all individuals in part of the same group: people. Not liking one of these genres or people is not racism. It's just that you straight up don't like the person or music. Not liking all music would be racism.

Yes, I know you could use this analogy to support your idea, but to put it frankly, i don't like your idea at all. Am I being racist to all ideas?

Sorry, but in my opinion, you are dead wrong.

Wrong, rap and stereotipically "black" music has evolved more from the days of slavery and such. If you trace the origins of Jazz, which gave way to rap and other genres, you never encounter country. Also, country and gospel are completely different genres.

I don't think that disliking a type of music implies racism, however, it can be a symptom. I know black people that can't stand rap and I know white people that can't stand rock and/or country. So it doesn't seem to be a very good measuring stick.

Not liking a type of music has nothing to do with racism. When younger, I hated Country music. Now I like it, but it is a lil different from when I was a kid. I hate RAP above all! My favorite music is Big Band Forties and Broadway musicals. That has a lot to do with my age. I was a teen in the fifties. I also like Bach...lol!

Re: dislike of a genre of music = racism?

While a lot of people's tastes in music are guided by their politics (be they racist, gay, or whatever), many others' tastes are guided simply by what they like.

I don't think the percentage of people who allow their musical tastes to be guided by their politics or prejudices is a majority, but they are out there.

I like to think that the majority of people like or dislike a genre simply because they like or dislike that genre...but maybe I'm just high.
