I am a retired sailor. I retired in 2001, at 42 years old, after spending 20 years in the Navy. My first enlistment was in 1976, I did get out after six years, went to
college and used up my GI bill. Then I went back into the Navy again and finished my career there.
As an enlisted Submarine Sailor my income peaked at around $65k/year. My 'peak' earning lasted for about 10 years. Early on they got me hooked on the 'Tax-free' thing, so I have not paid into Income taxation since 1983.
I collected apartment buildings on the side as a hobby during my career. Most places that I was stationed, we just collected another one.
So right now, really I guess I am un-employed.
45 years old and un-employed, but I have been offered jobs. For right now I am doing okay without a job, on my pension checks and rental income.
I started as a Computer-System-Analyst on Main-frame computers onboard subs. Then branched into Electronic Surveilance Systems. Then I slid into Intellignce Library Custodian. And onboard my last boat I was the Command Intelligence Officer.
Also with my degree in Theology, I functioned as Ship's Protestant Lay-Leader from 1987 on.
I also volunteered to be trained by the IRS to assist sailors with their taxes, I was certified by them, and I have assisted people with their taxes since 1988.
Also since 1990, each time we have been state-side we have been foster-parents, and we have kept our home filled with children.
:-)
Does any of that count as a job?
