Icon 58 Science Does a person's soul have weight?

My Mother worked as a RN nurse when I was a child in the 1970's.

The hospital she worked at was doing experiments (legally) on people who were mortally ill.

At the time of the person's death the person would be weighed by a highly accurate scale placed into the bed. The scale was accurate down to a 1000th of a milligram.

As the person died each and every person lost weight.

And no it wasn't from body fluids (urine etc) or air leaving the lungs because every bit of that was calculated and accounted for.

The only person who they measured that didn't loose weight died for a short while then reanimated back to life.
Later that day when they died fully they lost the additonal weight!

I was skeptical until I was at Duke Universty Medical Center one year and was talking to a Prof. over their Paranormal Dept (Yes they have one lol )
and he actually had some of the documentation on those tests and others done by them.

Just something to think about.

Strange indeed, but I'm still skeptical. Any references?

could just be something as simple (or complex, depending on how you view it) as the earths magnetic field interacting with the living persons electrical pulses, vs the dead persons lack of pulse, now if they performed the experiment in more "labratory" conditions (ie. using a mesurement that doesnt involve gravity, only measures mass) i would be very interested.

If this is true and the soul actually has mass, then where does it go and where does it obtain the energy necessary to get there? I'm curious.

The earth's magnetic pull on the body's electrical impulses is an interesting theory. Wonder what the research indicates?

Re: Does a person's soul have weight?

Isn't the soul supposed to be immaterial? If the soul is physical, where in the body does it reside?

The soul can not be physical, just as consciousness can not be physical.

Re: Does a person's soul have weight?

Most people are not aware that the Biblical idea of "soul" in the Hebrew mind simply meant the whole person. God "breathed" the breath of life into the dirt and man became a living soul. Most peoples' view of "soul" is from the Greek concept that the "good" soul needs to be released from the "inferior" body. In any case, the "soul" would have no more weight than one's thoughts.

Actually no because

"The only person who they measured that didn't loose weight died for a short while then reanimated back to life.
Later that day when they died fully they lost the additonal weight! "

THis peron's heart stopped beating, they were clinically dead for 15 minutes.
They did not loose any weight.
When the person died the second time that day for good they lost the weight

Re: Does a person's soul have weight?

Does anyone have a website or other documentation for this? I do believe in souls but I think they are intangible. Is there any documentation of this happening with other theories of why?

Sure, watch 21 Grams.
I am not sure if I believe this. It would be interesting to see more research about it, not just a movie.

Re: Does a person's soul have weight?

How much weight did those people lose? Could it be something like their breathe is making them weigh more? For example, when you jump on a scale, it says you weigh alot because of gravity, what other people are saying above...

It might not be there soul, but the baggage there soul carries. (i.e. bad things, worries, crimes...)
