Re: Ali or Tyson?
Look at Ali's fight with Foreman in africa, he took 6 rounds of unrelenting punishment from Foreman who used to split heavy bags after only a week. Ali went for the rope-a-dope, but against a 20ish Tyson, that would have been suicide, or at least the way to lose a decision. Now comparing the two late in career I'd go with Ali.
Ali 56wins 5 losses, 35-37 of those knockouts if you count the infamous hair knockout.
Tyson 50wins 4 losses, 45 knockouts, 2 fights stopped before finish.
Tyson has more power, if it went to a decision a modern judge would go with Tyson for his active style, however if we were talking mid 20s Ali, the decision would go to him, but he'd be hurting badly.
So the real answer to this question is WHICH Ali vs Tyson are we talking about, different fights at ages 20/25/30/35

that's a tough one... Tyson was unstoppable.... and I don't think Ali could have stopped him.

Re: Ali or Tyson?
In his prime Ali would have destroyed Tyson. Everyone talks of Tyson's greatness, but he was never truly tested. He never had to take a punch or deal with a fighter who could command the ring like The Champ.
Ali was incredible. My Grandfather was a boxer long ago, worked with a heavyweight champ back in the 30's. He later trained amatuers. And one of his guys lost to Ali (then C. Clay) for The Champ's first Gold Gloves Crown. Study Ali. Then study Tyson. Ali every time.
I loved Tyson when he was young. He was an animal. A terrifying puncher. But he wasn't the accomplished boxer that Ali was.
Float like a butterfly. Sting like a bee. Iron Mike woulda looked rusty against Ali!

HOOAH!!! Finally, someone who knows WTF they are talking about when it comes to boxing. If tyson had the experience or intelligence in the ring that made ALI so great, tyson would still be boxing today. In 50 years, ALI will still be studied and followed in boxing while tyson whill have faded as all extinct animals do!

Re: Ali or Tyson?
Ali. Ali is a smarter fighter. He'd rope-a-dope Tyson. Tyson was badass when everyone was afraid of him. When Buster Douglas whooped his ass, people started realizing he was touchable, and that was the beginning of the end.
They'd do the Nintendo Tyson strategy... last the first round and you can beat him! hehe!
