Re: Imports vs Domestics?
Yeah, but that being said. . . my Dad's car is a 2000 C5 hardtop, built to a little over 400HP. . . and it still gets 22/30 :D lol.
I'm not so lucky. . . about 15/23. . .

What I do have a problem with is people who get cocky after sticking a huge muffler on their otherwise stock Honda Civic and thinking they have a race-car.

There are plenty more cars than hondas, and ones that WILL be as reliable as a stock one with 300HP on it. Lightly Modded DSM's are reliable up until 400hp, then you might start to look at getting internals changed. Lighty modded RX7's, Old school Evo's. I guess the point in trying to say is that not all car owners are as stupid as honda owners (no offence but 80% of honda owners dont know what they have) We know if we throw on a coffee can, and a rag for a intake that we are just increasing airflow to the engine, and that sooner or later the a/f ratio will have to be upp'ed, or we will have a cutout.
But you can keep making fun of honda owners as much as youd like. :wiggle:

So true. Especially in a Toyota.
:happycow:
Seriously, I think that the quality of current cars & trucks is amazing; domestic or import. My first car was American (Ford Ranchero), then a Toyota Carolla, then a Mazda RX4, Then a Dodge Rampage (like a Ranchero), then a Nissan Pathfinder - currently a hotrodded Dodge 2500 4x4 with a Cummins turbodiesel, and I'm working on a '48 Ford pickup (with a Camaro front clip).
The Nissan was amazingly reliable, and was just as happy off road bouncing around or doing 80 on the freeway. It converted me to cloth seats, air conditioning & fuel injection.

Re: Imports vs Domestics?
I definitely prefer American vehicles to Japanese. While my car has occasional problems, it also has cheaper parts.

Re: Imports vs Domestics?
Neither. It's simply about quality and personal prefernce.
What do I have? SAAB and an Infinit. Why because I like them and they are dependable. Why don't I have a domestic automobil? Just because I don't at the moment. Who knows what my next car will be?

Re: Imports vs Domestics?
I dont think that either one is better than the other. Domestics just have a bad name from the late 90's because of quality. Recently Domestics have been proven to have been equal if not better in quality than there import counterparts. I feel the pontiacs along with there chev counterparts have started to improve quailty and are much more appealing than the imports because of there lower prices and cheaper repair costs.

Re: Imports vs Domestics?
American manufacturers have certainly gone a different direction developing their hybrids than the Japanese. Honda and Toyota have made hybrid small passenger cars. Ford and GM are going for SUV's and pickups. GMC has hybrid busses in production, now. They're being driven in Canada and Seattle(?) now.
I heard on the radio this weekend that altho the full-sized Silverado hybrid coming out, it doesn't make any real jumps in gas mileage. Still less than 20mpg. not a great marketing tool, there. eh?

Re: Imports vs Domestics?
...err?
Dodge is not domestic
Volvo, Saab, Jaguar and Land Rover are, but not the Volvo trucks
Nissan's are French
Roll Royce makes Jet engines not cars, BMW makes them
The largest big truck company in America is German
Mack trucks are French
...but the best damn beer all comes from Mexico

I drive a domestic... with a Japanese high-output designed and built engine...
It was built in 1989.
and yes, it was purchased new this way.

Re: Imports vs Domestics?
Chevy Vs. Ford- if you want speed, Chevy. If you want toughness, Ford. I'd take a Ford over a Chevy for doing work (a truck) any day. Chevy has sportier vehicles, but they cannot match Ford's trucks. My Ranger has a tough motor and has outlived many a S-10.
