In you own words what crosses the line to the point where it becomes cheating?

If you have any doubt, then it's pretty safe to say it's cheating.

I think cheating can be simplified as a violation of trust. Usually a couple would have some "ground rules" set up once they establish that they want to be in a monogamous relationship. No kissing/fondling/fucking of other people, etc. Once you cross that line, you cheat. Then there's also emotional cheating (and I think women are more prone to doing this because we are more emotional creatures, and men more physical) where you get your emotional high from some other person, you are intimate on an emotional level, etc. As OG once said, you can lose someone to another person long before the clothes ever come off.

anyway ... how about going out/hanging out with another -> with flirt mode on (without your partner's knowledge) -> id say thats cheating too.

I'd say that (and many others) would fall into the gray area, and that's what most people have trouble with. What if one person is more social than the other and loves to chat up other men/women? What if one person is more touchy-feely and thinks nothing of it while the other person stews in the corner? Phone sex, cyber sex, steamy emails... is this cheating or not? It really is a matter of boundaries you and your partner have set and agreed upon. I mean, usually having sex with somebody other than your SO is a but swingers are into that, and approve/encourage this behavior. Clearly there is no ONE rule that will apply to every single relationship on Earth, because we are all different.

And no, I don't write anything, that's OG's job. My only literary endeavors are posting on WR and updating my blog.

I wouldn't classify flirting as cheating unless it turns into something(this is probably part of the emotional cheating you mentioned K). If my gf was flirting with other guys with that intent though she'd be outta here. I have some friends who have gf's that are very social and could easily be mistaken for flirting, just kinda depends on the person.

I was cheated on and found out about it about 6 months later, yeah that sucked. I also heard this girl at a bar talking on her cell phone saying that "if you're too drunk to remember it then it's not cheating" i kinda giggled, as if large amounts of alcohol can erase what actually happened.

If you are doing something without your partners knowledge that you know they wouldn't want you to do concerning the opposite sex then it is cheating. Not all cheating is the same though. If you meet an old friend for coffee and it is a girl and you know your current gf wouldn't like it then it is going into a cheating area if you don't tell her. However it's not as bad as porking your secretary and it probably won't cause more than a fight. Use your own judgement, but don't cheat, it fucks up everything.

To me...any time someone feels they need to lie about what they did because they wouldn't want their spouse/sig other doing what they did...its cheating.

Basically, fuck technicalities just don't do what you wouldn't want your partner to do.
