Sounds like a scam somebody tried to run on me in Chicago years ago (pre internet). Woman wanted $20 because her car was broken down. I offered to take a look at it, being a fair mechanic and all, but she insisted that $20 would get her home. I reminded her that $2 for a Sunday transfer pass would get her home, but she still insisted on $20. I walked away and she followed me for blocks, still bugging me for $20....
