Confidence is the most imortant thing to a woman. I've found that (especially for shy dudes such as myself) that the best thing to do is to become the girl's friend first. This doesn't necessarily have to take months, but maybe a month, or at least a week or two of hanging out before you actually ask her out.

Honestly, the best thing you can do with a girl is be up front, I mean, if you are totally fake around her, eventually you'll start acting like yourself and that sucks. I've had a girl for a year now and she is awesome, but I mean I'm not acting different than normal. Try to get to know a girl if you're looking for a relationship, don't just hop into it.
