heads look in good shape, no evidence of a blown gasket. but the piston has a groove on it like it smacked a valve, but the valves look just like they did when i bolted the things in there a long time ago.

That's one fucken owned piston. Next time, make sure your air/fuel ratio is nice and rich before spraying the NAWZ.
