NASCAR
Let's hear it what are your thoughts on the new season?
What are your thoughts about the new points system?
Who do you think will take it all?
What do you think about Nextel taking over?

Re: NASCAR
1)to me, racing kinda sucks since Big E died, although the level of competition is quite impressive.
2)the new points system is just another way nascar is killing the tradition of the sport.moving the southern 500 from Darlington is another example.
3) my 2 picks for champion this year are Dale jr, and Kevin Harvick.my choices are not based on the popularity bandwagon.
4)I think Nextel will do a good job promoting the series, and they will be able to do so without all the legal issues that faced R.J.Rynolds over the last 10-15 years.

Re: NASCAR
rob-
1) I do agree that some aspects of racing suck since big E died. Things do not seem as aggressive as they used to be. No more fights in the infield and good old fashion hatred of other drivers.
The level of competition now is much closer because of the restrictions put in place by NASCAR and the enormous budgets that the corporate teams have to match the next guy.
2) I will give the new points system a shot but I'm not sure if it's going to produce the desired outcome that they are looking for.
3) I believe that this is Jr's year. He just needs to stay consistent.
4) There have been a lot of complaints about Nextel taking team sponsors and making them corporate sponsors. There are a couple of good drivers that are not running right now because of it. I guess that all comes with change though.
Thoughts?

Re: NASCAR
here's some of the stuff i miss.
i do have one gripe with Nextel.when it was first announced that they would be taking over sponsorship of the series, they mentioned that cingular and alltel were great partners for nascar, but no new cellular companies will be welcome in the series.i dont think thats fair,or maybe even legal.
it bothers me that from this point on, new champions that are crowned wont earn it based on the same system that Earnhardt won his 7 under.

Re: NASCAR
As I said before:
NASCAR = Non Athletic Sport Centered Around Rednecks
Too many wackos in the infield for me.
I will say this, though. The folks who run the circuit and the drivers are among the best people you'll ever meet. I spent a couple of nights partying with Michael Waltrip. Insane. What a funny guy! So there's an up-side. Just watch out for the fans with more eyes than teeth..........

thats like saying all people from "the STL" suck, just because the rams do.
I happen to like it, and it is in no way non-athletic, either physically or mentaly. I will agree with you on the quality of people envolved in the sport. No where else will you find a bunch of people who are more fan friendly.
Also, there wont be any strikes and such. If a driver wants more money, he races for it. If he won't drive the car, he can step aside, because someone else will.

Nextel cup cars turn right too, at Sonoma, and Watkins Glen.
I do not like 750 hp go-carts, but to each his own.
