Windows Messenger
Anybody know the trick to removing the Windows Messenger entirely from the system?
I'm running XP Pro, if that makes any difference.

Re: Windows Messenger
You mean the Messenger service or MSN/Windows Messenger (I've heard it called both and that's really F'ing stupid for M$ to do that).
To kill the Messenger Service: and this will work for anyone
1. Start->Run type services.msc
2. Find Messenger right-click and select Properties
3. Click Stop if it's currently running, then under Startup Type set it for Disabled
4. Click OK and you're done, no need to restart the system.
With XP SP2 this shouldn't be an issue since it's disabled by default.

I actually like buggering around with the messenger service, so that's not what I was talking about.
I was talking about MSN/Windows Messenger, thanks.

idk how to completly remove it but you can go into the options of it tell it not to come up on start up then remove it from the start menu and then it doesn't bother you anymore

Re: Windows Messenger
That's the problem... I've even gone so far as to disable it in MSConfig. It still shows up, so that's why I want to remove it completely from my system.
Thanks for trying, though.

Re: Windows Messenger
It normally turns itself back on in msconfig after you've accessed your hotmail or opened Outlook. Used to bother me before too. You'll have to change the settings in the MSN itself to not start up with Windows, I'll have to check later on how to disable it from Outlook as well.

Re: Windows Messenger
I've removed it from many computers. Click start, run, then paste this into the box and hit enter:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%INFmsmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Thanks man, I'll run it on my other computer (the one that's bugging me) and see if it works.
On a slightly random note, what's the deal with the blue title?
