Dell for the win?

click on one of our sponsors! OR REMOVE ADS
Hey guys, I'm heading off to college this fall and I'm looking into buying a laptop. Just curious if anyone had any imput on the Dell Inspiron 9300. My current configuration of the system is pretty much maxed out by Dell's standards:

Intel® Pentium® M Processor 760 (2 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB)
17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife™
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm
256MB NVIDA® GeForce™ Go 6800

I'm looking to spend under $2,500 on the system, this config being $2,192. Anyone here own a Inspiron 9300? Is it a good buy or should I go with a HP? I was also considering going with alienware, except they are way more expensive. I'll be using the laptop for anything and everything multimedia related. Any info on the system would be appreciated.

Looks good to me! I would reccomend the Latitude line if they had a machine with a comparable video card, but alas they don't. Latitude laptop are dells professional line that are usually made with higher quality cases and other such things increasing life span and durability. As long as you're careful that machine should do quite nicely, infact i'm jelous.

We only get the Latitudes here. You do know that thing is going to weight about 10lbs with a battery and drive (Starting at 7.85 lbs)... I do recommend the complete care warranty. That way they will fix it even if you run it over.

Re: Dell for the win?

Thanks for the imput. Yea I'm going to get the three year warranty and theft protection because surely there will be lots of people at college who are just as jealous as mantisman, if not more (jk of course!)
The weight issue is something I wish I could overcome, alas with all the hardware I doubt I'll be able to do anything about it. Oh well at least I'll get a workwout while playing HL2. Wish those Latitudes could run with a nicer video card...

Re: Dell for the win?

It's a solid choice. IBM has some nice units too. Dell has a $600 off deal this week. I'd send you a link but they will ban me. Also google for coupon codes.

Re: Dell for the win?

Yea, I definitly need to order it this week with that %20 off deal or whatever it is. And the coupon thing works nicely too thanks for the advice!

Think I got enough feedback to feel good about ordering it tomorrow. My graduation open house just ended so I gotta count my cash
