Hey people, im looking to buy a laptop as my current computerhas 800Mhz and 128mb RAM, piece of shit in other words!
Ideally I'm looking for one with a Pentium 4 processor, but ive found cheaper versions with an AMD Sempron 3000+ Processor. Is there much difference between the two and which would be better for gaming? Cheerz guys :happycow:

AMD is better for games, but i dont know that much about sempron and laptop gaimg. What games are you looking to play?

You'd do well to research reviews of the Sempron chip on hardware/tech sites. One such site, Anandtech has a review of the Sempron 3300+ vs an AMD 64 3200+ and Celeron 3.06Ghz.

They show around 65fps on Doom3 at 1024x768 on High Quality, which is quite good (paired with a Radeon X800 card), and better than the Celeron too.

Sempron is AMD's "bargain" offering. Keep an eye out for a good deal for better hardware.

sempron 3000+ < athlon 3000+ i'd go with an athlon over the sempron. keep eye out at outpost, newegg, or pricewatch, always sales on higher end chips. even combos

Laptop gaming is no bueno as an earlier poster said. Keep your 800mhz laptop and get a cheap desktop, p4 or athlon 64. Youll be much happier if you can survive with your crappy laptop. If you need a gaming laptop dell usa has great deals occasionally on the inspiron 9300, but since youre in the uk you probably cant get one. Just keep your eyes open. That sempron is pretty weak for anything but word processing imho.

I have a sempron and it isn't great - I know people who have crappier pentiums as far as specs go, but they get better performance.

Take my advice, don't be fooled by the sempron, it is a poor man's version of a very good chip - buy the very good chip or get a pentium.
