Emergency Problem Help
When I went to boot up today it went to go into my desktop and then stopped and went to the logon screen. I have it set to just go straight into my desktop so that confused me. Then when I clicked on my little logon icon it acted as if it was going to go and played the logon music and then just as quickly it played the logout music and never even left the logon screen. It WILL NOT let me logon. I tried safe mode and everything else I could think of. I even tried to run the XP disc and do a repair but it didn't do anything. I went and installed XP Pro on the other partition where I had Win98 installed to see if it would at least let me access the other partition so I could get crucial files burned and the other partition did show up. I got the most important files burned but want to be able to logon to that particular partition as I have it set up the way I want. Any ideas as to what has happened? I am afraid that when I ran that register doctor program that people were talking about that it deleted a registry file that I needed? I thought those damn things were made to NOT delete important system files? Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated!!! TIA

Re: Emergency Problem Help
I have very lil patience when it comes to windows fucking up. If you burnt all your important files onto CD / DVD then I would just format the shit outta that partition and reinstall.
Windows (and my tendancies to fuck with it) has taught me a very valuable lesson of partitions. All my data goes onto partitions, with windows being installed on a 10gig Partition. Nothing else gets put on this partition as opposed to drivers / firewalls / anti virus. When windows decides to be a dipshit I just format and I've lost nothing

Re: Emergency Problem Help
It's possible that it was some pieces of spyware conflicting with each other or even a virus or both.

Re: Emergency Problem Help
Are you the only person that access the computer? If not someone might have placed a log-in name and pass by mistake, and Windows wants you to provide that information before continuing.

If this procedure doesn't help your computer's registry is to damaged to recover and you will require a reinstall.
This problem is most commonly caused by spyware/malware and viruses.
Good luck!

I'll have to give this a go later tonight. With all the sh*t I have running to prevent against spyware, trojans and viruses I would be shocked if it was that that caused it! I think it had to do with the registry program that I ran, the f(^*@!g thing!!! THANKS to all who replied:~)

Re: Emergency Problem Help
slave the drive in another PC and run a virus scan on it... do a search on the web for running system restore from a command line... I belive it can be done... if you P2P look for software called ERD commander by winternals... or if you still get it Go Back by Roxio/Adaptec

Re: Emergency Problem Help
I know this is an old thread but nobody said what seemed obvious to me. Since you never logged in "Last Known Configuration" should still work. It will take you back to the configuration at the last time you were able to succesfully log in. It does work sometimes and is always worth a try. When you get logged in you can use restore points as well. WinXP isn't all bad.

I did try this option and had the same result. I always turn off the system restore. I had it on one time and got a virus and didn't catch it til it was already in the archives and it was a bitch so I just started turning it off. I did a total format and after getting all the crucial proggies I wanted installed I did a backup. I love experimenting with new stuff and it gets to be costly at times, but that is how you learn I guess. Thanks for the help on this thread though:~)
