Finding Motivation

click on one of our sponsors! OR REMOVE ADS
i post this here because i've seen alot of different points of views and ways of life on this board...

i can't find the motivation in myself to do anything that i KNOW i should be doing...i am a student but i don't study, and can't seem to make myself study...i need to however, pass my Network+ exam soon, as i'm already in over my head...(when i pass my net+ exam, my school will place me in a job) I am currently A+ certified (thats computer hardware/software) and am having a tough time finding a job as it is...and when i get rejected for whatever the reason is...it just negates any kind of motivation i had before...i want and need a job, i want and need to finish school, i just can't find the motivation in myself...

ideas?

thank you

Re: Finding Motivation

Actually, I'll second that question, although I get the feeling there's no simple answer that can be disseminated (virtually) anonymously over the 'net. I'd love to get a quick 'n easy solution, but I think it'll take lots of thinking, lots of talking with person(s) you know and trust, and just some plain old force of will.

Then again, maybe I'm just making it more complex than it needs to be...

Re: Finding Motivation

The problem isn't your need for motivation, it's probably the way how before you did something wrong. Anything happen previously before you need this boost?

Re: Finding Motivation

are you at all depressed? i know i was having the same problem my senior year of high school, i knew what needed to be done, but found it impossible to do it... i ended up failing and having to go back for an extra semester... i think that subconsiouly i was holding myself back because i didnt know what i wanted to do after i graduated, and i still dont know what i am going to do... but anyways, you need to take some time to figure out what exactly is the problem, most likely its an internal issue, and work from there, unfortunatley its probably not something that anybody else is going to be able to help you with, dunno if that helped or even made sense, but its a tough thing to work through... good luck

Re: Finding Motivation

I've recently gone through something similar like that. Find someone you're comfortable talking with, and just start talking. Don't start talking about your problem right away though, put it out of your mind for a bit and just talk about whatever. This should calm you down and open up your eyes to the issue, possibly see things in a different light? Then talk about the problem and come up with some solutions or paths of action. Don't choose any of these right away either, take a little time to think about it.

Going at it slow and indirectly may be pretty effective.

This method recently helped me out some, so I thought I'd throw it out there.

Re: Finding Motivation

i think sonrisa may be right...because i'm working right now, and im struggling with school, i do kinda feel inadequate...maybe once i pull down a job or finish another one of my exams it will pull me out of this funk i'm in...but this weekend i think i'm going to try to put it out of my mind, have fun, and throw myself head-first into it first of the week...i always like to meet my problems head-on...just how i am i guess....

Re: Finding Motivation

I read some of the responses and I figured I would inject some of my questionable wisdom. Over the years I have found out a couple of things.

1. Dont take anything too seriously, otherwise you will let other people and situations control your life.

2. If you get into something like school, try your best to do your best, I know it is hard to believe but you actually learn something when you put in some effort.

3. I get my motivation from movies and from putting myself into challanging situations and overcoming them. This might be your problem, you might not see the use in taking the classes you are taking or that you are wasting your life in this situation, figure out what you like and go after it, even if you have to move to Michigan and go out with Sonrisa.

Re: Finding Motivation

Sounds like a bit of burnout to me. Everything all falling on your shoulders at once.

It helps to write it all out: What you need to accomplish still, the steps to doing it...break it down into bitesize pieces instead of looking at the whole big mess.

Secondly, when you get overwhelmed, it's hard to see past the dismal present to the future. That is what you need to clearly see: your goal. Knowing that you'll be done school, with a good grade, having a job that will provide you with opportunities is so much better than looking back with regret on the fact that you just let it all slide because it was momentarily too much.

And sometimes a little break, like you're thinking of, can refresh you. Hang in there, it's almost summer.

Re: Finding Motivation

Definately take a short break, clear your head, preferebly outdoors in the sunlight away from computor screens and the city. Give your mind a holiday away from your routine.
We all hit that wall from time to time and I'm sure from what you say that you will succeed. Good Luck.

Re: Finding Motivation

Hang in there, it will get better. I know that I got frustrated and felt like giving up at times when I was in school. Like others have said- take a break and come back to it. What you are doing is not easy, but it will pay off in the end. Keep up the good work! :wiggle:

after thought:

Are you looking to stay where you are or are you willing to relocate for a job in this field of work? Maybe look in areas around you or even in other states...

You know, rejection is a part of life... it's going to be there. All you need to say is, next! Move on and continue on your next goal and just focus.

Re: Finding Motivation

interesting thread, I think I lot of people have a similar problem, including myself.
lots of good advice here.

I find that for myself, its more like a "series" of motivated periods, and then slacking periods. kind of like once you start you get on a roll.

great to hear that things are changing for the better.
