Re: trouble sleeping

Melatonin is a pretty safe, natural sleep-related hormone. You can get it OTC at your local pharmacy, but just make sure it's less than 5mg per pill, as opposed to the 50mg per pill, which are serious sleep aids, as opposed to a mild helper.

Hope this helps (and is repworthy :happycow

Re: trouble sleeping

Hmm I got sleep problems all the time, but lets see, well I pretend I got a shit load to study for, so lie on the bed and try not falling asleep, just look over at the desk, stare at the open book, and just say to your self, just 5 minutes, and eventually you'll doze off. just don't this when you actually have work. finish the work first!

Re: trouble sleeping

Find an extremely boring book and read it. Alot of sleep problems result from inconsistencies in sleep patterns. It's hard but you should try to go to bed at the same time and get up at the same time irregardless of your situation. Also, it is proven that exercise is beneficial for sleep. Avoid the sleeping aids if at all possible. Try consistent sleep patterns and regular exercise for 7-10 days and you might be surprised.

Re: trouble sleeping

I have the same difficulty sometimes, the thing that works for me is to warm up some milk, and then find a comfortable postion in bed. I then close my eyes and let my mind wander to where ever. Usually before I know it, I'm dreaming.

Re: trouble sleeping

right now my sleep pattern is a little screwy but will get into more of a routine, no drugs for this guy, just not my style. It's been a little better but I often close my eyes and think of volleyball and then pretend i'm playing and get tense without even realizing it, i'm also away from my apartment at school and in a guest bedroom at my parent's house so i'm not used to it. Thanks for your replies

Re: trouble sleeping

my problem is that i think too much when im trying to sleep... i dunno why, but when i let my mind wander as u put it... i just start thinking about way to much crap and cant go to sleep, so i normally clear my mind, and dont let myslef think about anything, and i fall asleep pretty quickly... either that, or lots and lots of sex to wear you out... then you will fall asleep before your head hits the pillow!

Benadryl is actually the exact same pill (in terms of active ingredient and dosage) as a popular OTC sleep aid (forget which, though, so I'm sorry if this is a bit vague), and also the same as the sleep-aid portion of Tylenol PM.

The more ya know...

Re: trouble sleeping

Your sleep patern isn't just going to Poof and have you sleeping and waking up at the time u want, it takes a bit of time. Your body's biological clock has to get accustomed to waking and sleeping times, then your body will follow. or you could do it the kiddy style, warm milk and cookies, and then have your parents wake you up.

I used to be the same way, I used to think about all of the things that needed to be accomplished over the next couple of days and then I would get overwhelmed. I think that was because I wasn't doing anything all day and wasting my life away.

Now I'm way too tired to think about all that stuff or get anxiety over it. My girlfriend usually gets me angry before I go to sleep and then I can't sleep...go figure!

Re: trouble sleeping

How are you in the morning? I mean, can you make it on only several hours of sleep? I too, can take melatonin on occasion. The amount I take is 3 mg and it works pretty good, usually asleep within 45 minutes....

Re: trouble sleeping

Benadryl is an excellent aid- IF YOU NEED IT. 1 will provide just the calming effect that might help you drift off. My problem with sleep aids is that it is so easy to become dependent on them. Sleep is natural so it should remain that way if at all possible. Excercise and routine works for me (I used to have real trouble with sleep). Also, a clear conscience is helpful too.
