Driving stoned
Ok heres another topic that will hopefully spur some discussion.
What are you feelings on Driving stoned? Does it make you a better or worse driver? Also, have you ever gotten into an accident while stoned and if so, do you think it was BECAUSE you were stoned?
For those who dont smoke, What are your feelings on people driving while they are high? Does it worry you?
And heres one for ya: Would you rather a person was stoned while driving or drunk while driving?
Ok people, Lets hear some responses!

Re: Driving stoned
I generally don't like to do it, but often times its the only alone time I get for taking a toke. I've noticed on roads I know, I'm okay, but in new territory, I usually drive more jumpy. I try not to as much as possible.

Re: Driving stoned
Yea, on my home turf it's totally cool. I feel fine, I know where the cops like to hide out and I'm real comfortable.
If it's in an unusual place then I don't like it. I can still drive alright, Im just much more uptight.

Re: Driving stoned
I don't like to drive stoned. I get too paranoid while I'm high and on the road. I think I drive okay, but I’m always worried about stuff (police, accidents, etc.) My roommate LOVES to drive stoned. I do find it fun to actually drive the car, but the thoughts of getting in trouble ruin the good time.
There was a study done in England that stated driving stoned was far safer than driving drunk. I don’t think it went as far to say that it was okay to drive high, just not as bad as being drunk.

Re: Driving stoned
Yeh, I heared about that study (from NORML i believe). It made sense though. But really I think that it depends on the person smoking more than anything. Using myself as an example, when i first started smoking, driving was kind of hard to do and looking back, probably wasnt a great idea. But now, I can drive just as well as if Im sober. Actually probably better because I am overly cautious if anything. Some of it is probably due to paranoia, some is due to the fact that I get "into it", so to say, and pay much more attention than i do if im sober. Other people though, do stupid shit like run red lights because they are spaced out or whatever. So i guess it depends on the person and how well they can function when high.
A lot of states are starting to give DUIs to drivers who test positive for THC in roadside drug tests which is bullshit because all a drug test proves is that they have smoked within the past 30 days or so. It doesnt mean that they were stoned while driving. And even if they were stoned while driving, is it really as bad as driving while drunk? Most of the people i have ridden with while stoned drive more like old people than drunk people. Its stuff like that thad does make me paranoid and not drive too often so i can agree with you on that point thepipebomb. The thing is I really like smoking in cars. I mean bewteen sound systems, the sealed enviroment, and comfortable seats, i cant think of a better place to smoke. If only i could just sit in my driveway and smoke without atracting the attention of the neigbors....

Re: Driving stoned
Driving stoned is no better than driving drunk. It's DUI and folks need not do it. Sure toking one up is fun but your reaction time is very poor even if you think you can handle any situation.
Now I can't point the finger here because I've done it before too. All it took though was one very close call to sober me up and bring me down from my high. A buddy and I were enjoying a "ride" through Memphis when I hydroplaned right near an accident. We slid sideways down the road straight for a cop that was directing traffic...somehow my vehicle righted itself and drove straight past it all.
Very dangerous folks. Just park the car and smoke at home.

Re: Driving stoned
I used to but now I'm too paranoid after getting a DUI in 2000...
I used to love getting loaded at like 6am and running my Trans Am up PCH in Huntington Beach a few years back...all chroniked out listing to the wide open headers roar...

Re: Driving stoned
Driving high is sort of like being in a video game except you are constantly stopping short.

Re: Driving stoned
I've driven stoned many times, but only driven drunk once(it was my friend's 21st bday, he sure as hell couldn't drive) and I can tell you from personal experience that driving stoned is WAY easier than driving drunk, at least for me. Of course it all depends on how much you've smoked, but I've personally never had a problem with it. People with a low tolerance to weed definately shouldn't drive stoned though.

Re: Driving stoned
i would have to say its probably not the smartest thing to do but with a lite buzz driving a manual can be really fun. you feel very in touch with the car and the road. but it certainly can slow your reaction times down.
