Just a quick question here I have read through the other thread about the guy wanting to enlist, I am going to talk to a recruiter tonight about going back into the CORP. I am a 30 year old male with wife and kids but I have this burning desire to get back into the military. I see all of our guys over there fighting for us and I am sittig here watching. What do you guys think? I would not be doing it for the money by no means I make very good moiney now its just this job has no future in it!
Any Suggestions?

Honestly.. I would stay with your family. Amen to all those over there serving our country, but.. I think its more important for you to be a father rather than a statistic.

To your kids you are Daddy, to the rest of the US you're just another soldier. If you die your kids will be missing you forever, to the rest of the US they will not even know you existed, and fought, and died fighting.

What is your main priority? This country needs good fathers as much as we need good warriors. I admire your sense of duty but your kids needs you more than the military.

Yeah, what ever happened to the fatherly love talked about around the world. This is probably why we can't have like world peace, since humans in nature can not get along when they have been raised by only one view. I want to join because I want to promote peace through trying to save the innocent, when the insurgents are terrorizing the inhabitants. We are raised in the world to best of the best, and sometimes taught to push people out of your way to get to that level you want.

Right now, your kids need their father, no matter what age they are. They need more than their mother to guide them through their begginings or finishing touches of their life. When they learn later, how you sacrificed your desire for them, its gonna come back better. But hey, its your future. . . . .

i have nothing good to say about the military but if I was you, I would stay with the family. Im sure your kids will benefit more from you being home than they will from you going to the military. and to Bradd888 you said "I want to join because I want to promote peace through trying to save the innocent, when the insurgents are terrorizing the inhabitants" Ive know 4 people personally, who I am very close with who all are either In or have been in Iraq in the past few years, and believe me, killing innocent people in another country for an unjust cause will not promote the "fatherly love" you speak of. anyway, thats just my own opinion, whatever either of you chose Im sure it will be best for you. good luck

Why does it have to be military?

What about Homeland Security?

People keep going on about protecting american citizens and the innocent, but why does it have to be a military job?

I work for a local police dept, not a big city just a plain township dept and I get very similar training to some military job types, even have to work with them from time to time. In this post 9-11 world police depts get hazmat, WMD and terrorist response training. We have our own SWAT and Bomb Squads, we have ofc who speicalize in crisis negotiations and search and rescue missions. We help firemen pull people out of burning fires, comfort children after horrifying domestic situations, and sometimes even beat the ambulance to an emergency baby delivery.

And what about firemen? These people bravely run INTO hell to pull families out of the flames while others run out, these men and women rip open twisted metal to extracate the trapped and dying in horrific car wrecks.

And what about EMTS? They do everything from take grandma to the hospital cause she's sick to fight death itself over 1 patient.

These people are heroes as well-we don't go chasing after terrorists in exotic lands, we don't often get medals, and the news teams don't keep track of how many of us die in the line of duty, but my job is the same as theirs-to protect the innocent

Your military training would be a big help to a police dept somewhere, and there are always fire depts looking for more help. It's not hard to get the training and pass the exams, you don't have to be some young 20 year old fresh out of the academy-heck if you've got a college degree most states have a 6-12 month course that will teach you all you need for police work and get you set for the exam, and the physical testing isn't much different from normal PT stuff.

And the best part of it is, is that I don't have to worry about if my little boy is ok at home...cause I come home at night, kiss him in his sleep, and I know I am keeping him safe

oh...and I get to drive around in a shiny car with lights and sirens (the kids favorite part), not to mention I get to use my handcuffs and big stick on people in public

Raise your kids. You served, and I will think of you along with my friends and family who have served this next Vetrans' Day. If you still feel a need, how about helping the USO or VA?

Not to get to political, but our president lied to the American people to get us into a war. To date this has been a waste of almost 2,000 American lives and 7,000+ injured. Teach your children that there are reasons to go to war, and this wasn't any of them.
