Just saw this movie today and have to say it was a waste of time. I didn't read the book but the reviews gave it a pretty good rating so I went to see it.

The film had no plot line, minimal cast, had nothing to do with hitchiking across the galaxy as the name suggests, kooky events that made no sence what so ever, and worst off just one alien race (other than the mice ) ... now what kind of space movie is that? Although the manic depresive robot and the bureaucratic aliens where quite amusing... so I give it a Mediocre 2.

plain and simple, it was not a good movie. Please someone explain to me how you condense 4 books into barely an hour and a half of a movie. Each book of Lord of the rings or harry potter got almost double the amount of time, Bone heads.

I want to see it, but havent had time yet. I might tonight and let you know what I think then.

s8slo - sounds like you didn't read the books and probably just don't enjoy that kind of humor.

sfgiants - is it more than just the first book? I was uner the impression the movie just covered the first book?

It is just the first book. I don't know where sfgiants got the impression it was all of them from (and there are 5 books, not 4)

I went to see it, and I actually thought it was quite good. It isn't as good as the book (but then apart from Lord of the Rings, when is a movie based on a book ever as good as the book) but it is still good.

Re: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, your views.

If you know the books well, you'll get more out of it. The thing to realize was that the movie wasn't supposed to follow the books too closely. If you are a HHGTTG fan before hand, I think you can get a lot more out of it. The other thing was that they incorporated references from the other books to make the story more coherent. As anyone who has read the books knows, Douglas Adams liked to use obscure, one-line cross-references to his other books. To wit, often there'd be a one-line reference to a particular situation in an earlier book, only to be expounded upon in a later book. It was just his style.

In fact, if I recall correctly (and I don't wnt to go scrounging for my copies of the books right this second), the main plot of the movie was based upon a one-line reference to the Vice President of the Galaxy, though he was never really brought up again in the books.

i went to see it like a week after it came out. i didnt read the book but i thought that it was alrite. it was kinda monotonous at points and that parts that were meant to be funny were not always funny. i would think that it was british humor, like mr.bean, sometimes it funny and sometimes its not.

Great movie. Not the best, but great. Now I'm going to read the rest of the books.

I thought it was enjoyable, though the purist would probably like to hang Disney for making it.

Re: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, your views.

I thought it was pretty good, not the top of the line, but it's rare that a movie "pulls a Lord of the Rings" aka kickass. That being said, I could see why some people wouldn't like it. If you haven't read the books, your not going to get a lot of the subtle things like Ford's use of the word Belgium in the movie or the little crab getting the crap smashed out of him when they land to free Trillian. To further this point, I'd like to point out how some 8 or 9 people actually got up and left during the movie. The others were either die-hard fans that read the books or didn't want to leave since they'd already blew $10.00 on a movie.

It was suppose to be funny but it wasn't as funny as I thought it would be. Mos Def was amusing, and so was that thing with the big ass head. Other than that it didn't make me didn't laugh out like i thought it would.

I felt as though the movie did a pretty good job of the book. As douglas Adams said he always wanted his storys changing and evolving. So I hope it does well enough to warrant a sequel., because Resturant at the end of the universe is a really funny book.

Re: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, your views.

Ok, heres some things I wanna say..

Firstly, this movie was only based off the first book. Well, when I say based off, I mean it didn't go any farther than the first one did. The story of the movie, and the first book were pretty different, but the outline were about the same.
Secondly, I would say, even if you didn't like the movie, try reading the book. I've gotten a few of my friends to read the book, and they at first say something like "reading isnt my thing" but at the end, they won't stop asking me for the next book.
Everyone I know that read the book say it's the best thing they ever read. Theres alot of things that were very very funny that were left out of the movie that you can find in the book.

Do yourself a favor, read Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
