Posting For Dummies
Welcome to the wonderfull world of posting on a public forum. Before you even think of posting a message, you must have already registered, verified your account, agreed to the terms of service and read and understood all of the rules for each appropriate forum. Note that one mess up could mean banage for life.
First off, you must make sure you are logged on to webrats. When logging on, make sure you type in your name and password in a case sensitive manner.
After making sure you are logged on, pick the appropriate section of the forum for which your topic will relate to (i.e. boobie pics in Vaginarium, off topic stuff in the BOTH, serious discussions in the EOTH, and so on).
Once you make your way into the forum you want to post in, click on the “New Thread” link at the top of the page:
When you click the “New Thread” link, it will take you to a screen that looks something like this:
In this particular example, I have chosen to post in the BOTH. Type out an appropriate title for your post in the title box. Remember that titles must not contain any profanities, must not contain links, and must give the reader an idea of what you will be writing about; the catchier the title, the more visits your post will get. Once you have typed out a title, start typing out what it is you want other readers to see. If you wish to use an emoticon (smiley), click on the one that suits your needs. To see a list of all emoticons, click on the “more” link shown here:
A window will pop up displaying all of the available emoticons. Choose which emoticon you want to use and click on it. The magic of VB Bulletin will post the code for your emoticon, automatically, wherever you left off.
Once you have finished typing out your message with the appropriate emoticons, it is customary (and good netiquette) to proof read your post. You can do this on the same window, or you can chose to “preview” your post, by clicking here:
Once you click the button it will take you to a preview of your post. Once you think your message is finished and have made any changes (if any), remember the rules and make sure you haven’t violated any of them. You are now ready to submit your post by clicking here:
Or here:
You have now successfully posted your message. VB Bulletin will take you to your post. If you discover any mistakes after the fact, you can click on the "edit" link within your message and you can make more changes and resubmit.
There are more advanced options that will be discussed in another lesson.
