Let's Talk College Football. . .
Who's going to be good this year? Everybody knows USC is going to be good, but how does it stack up after that?
I've heard Ohio State, but after that I can't pick 'em.

Re: Let's Talk College Football. . .
Well, although USC will be good, I don't think they can pull of the 3-peat. Everyone is out for their head, however we know they play in a WEAK ASS pac-10.....I'll admit, I am looking through garnet and gold Florida State glasses when i say this, but if we can get over the hump and beat Miami on Labor Day, watch out. IMHO the 'Noles have the best defense in the nation, and certainly the best linebacking group of the nation. If our questions on the offensive line, quarterback, and kicker are answered, we will be a dangerous team.
As for the rest of the NCAA, I look for Va Tech to be very good with Marcus Vick winning the QB position easily in the spring even with a year off. UTn is also gonna be a force in the SEC east, and you can't forget about Vincent Young and UTx out in the Big 12. And I really think that Louisville will have a big first season in the Big East like Va Tech did last year in their first year in the ACC.....I'm very excited about this season, and am trying to wait patiently for Labor Day!

How exactly is the Pac-Ten weak?? Man all you East Coast followers should really open your eyes and relize that the West has been breathing down your necks for awhile.

Re: Let's Talk College Football. . .
Sorry man, but I think the Pac-10 is weak as hell. I like you kornut, and I respect your opinion, however I don't see where you get that the west has been breathing down the east's neck......just look at last year each big conference's teams with 8 or more wins, how many total bowl teams, and how many of those bowl teams played in a January bowl game.
Pac-10: USC (13-0), Cal (10-2), Arizona St. (9-3)
# of Bowl teams: 5, with 1 being a January bowl.
SEC: Auburn (13-0), LSU (9-3), UGA (10-2), UTn (10-3)
# of Bowl teams: 6, with 4 being a January bowl.
ACC: Va Tech (10-3), FSU (9-3), Miami (9-3), UVA (8-4)
# of Bowl teams: 6, with 2 being a January bowl.
Big East: Pitt (9-3), WVU, Boston College, and UCONN all (8-4)
# of Bowl teams: 5, with 2 being in a January Bowl.
Big 12: OU (12-1), UTx (11-1), Texas A&M (8-4)
# of Bowl teams: 6, with 3 being a January bowl.
Big Ten: Michigan (9-3), Iowa (10-2), Wisconsin (9-3), Ohio St. (8-4)
# of Bowl teams: 5, with 3 being a January bowl.
To me this tells me that almost every major conference is better than the pac-10. Although I will say that the Pac-10 is better than the Big East, but other than that I do not see how the Pac-10 is better or breathing down anyone's neck.....I am not saying there are no good teams in the Pac-10, b/c USC has been dominant as of late, and Cal is a very good football team as well, but overall as a conference they Pac-10 is weak.....Every major conference had more teams with 8 or more wins with the exception of the Big 12....I don't mean to step on toes, but its easy to get at least 8 wins when you play the likes of Arizona (3-8), Stanford (4-7), Washington (1-10)....and go ahead and attack the ACC for being weak, I admit this, however the ACC is much more competitive than the Pac-10....all of this information is from espn.com if you want to look any of it up.

Re: Let's Talk College Football. . .
Okay Mr.Snifflez, If you are talking about just last year, yeah we had a rough one. I'm not saying that Pac-Ten teams have been dominate over the last fifty years. But we are getting more kids interested in our programs and it's bringing our status of contenders up.
I just think that Eastern schools don't look at us as a threat. And why not?? Of course USC is a force now and will lead the Pac-10 again this year. Cal is going to be trouble, Wash can only get better with Ty's help, OSU and OU could suprise with return players and young and determined recuits.
Let's be honest also...the BCS has screwed the Pac alot over the last few years (*cough...Oregon...couch*).
Will we ever be looked at like a Miami, or Ohio State, no. But nontheless, come play at the west and expect a fight. Just ask Michigan.
We also have had alot of Eastern teams reject or invites to play us. Why?? Money, no. They just don't want the upsets.
I do agree that we still have a ways to go to become a feared, and respected conference all the way down the bored. But we are making big strides in becoming just as competitive as others.
Dominate....no, of course not. Weak?? No way.

Re: Let's Talk College Football. . .
Any BCS Conference sucks when a team from the WAC (Boise State for example...YES I'm a homer, go fuck off) could kill 6 of the teams, have a good shot at beating three out of the top 4, and have no chance at USC.
Boise State = BCS Buster 2005.
Going to BSU vs. Oregon State in September...watch out Corvallis

Re: Let's Talk College Football. . .
I was only using last year as an example, but im interested in knowing who rejected invites from pac-10 teams....im not asking this to drag out this conversation, i am just interested in knowing. also, i never said that the pac-10 wasn't improving, because they are, and i am glad they are doing so. the more the conferences get balanced, the closer we will get to a playoff system. get these WAC teams more talent and balance them out, and other mid-major conferences and one day we will have that playoff system.....until then the bcs will continue to dictate the championship.

Re: Let's Talk College Football. . .
Well snifflez, I think you hit the nail on the head with Va Tech. They came on strong last year, and return most of their playmakers this season, and I think they'll be a force to be reckoned with in the ACC this year. That conference is gonna be loaded.
However, I disagree that FSU has the best linebacking unit. Of course I'm biased, but I think that Chad Greenway and Abdul Hodge could be the top 2 linebackers in the nation. They're both sideline-to-sideline players who never EVER stop, and all they've done is make plays since their freshman seasons. And it doesn't matter who takes over the other LB spot, cause those 2 animals will wreak havoc for 60 minutes everyday.
One other team I would keep my eye on this season is Tennesse. Their 2 young QB's (who played great as freshmen) will have a year of experience under their belts, and their defense was great as usual. If they can find a replacement for Kevin Burnett, they should be a team to watch out for.

Re: Let's Talk College Football. . .
Well, we can agree to disagree about the LB core, because we are both obviously biased towards our team. With the likes of A.J. Nicholson, Buster Davis, and arguably the best OLB in the nation, Ernie Sims III, you can't deny that they have a fearful group.
Tennessee's QB situation is not as difficult now, with the dismissal of Shaeffer from the UTn team after his arrest for assault. That team is now Ainge's, but Clausen could put on some pressure this fall, especially with the way he performed after both FROSH QB's got hurt last year.
I am really looking forward to this fall, college football is by far my favorite time of the year, with March Madness being a close second

Thanks guys I needed that, don't get to talk football much with roommates that don't watch it
I agree with VaTech, and also Texas, they should be fun to watch, and here's hoping Wies does something at Notre Dame. . .

Re: Let's Talk College Football. . .
Well, I think Weis has the stuff to bring ND around. Ty really wasn't a bad coach, I think he just wasn't a good fit for them. Bringing in a no-nonesense guy like Weis should give the Irish what they REALLY need... toughness.

I concur, I thought Willingham brought a lot to the table, but I like how Wies is going about recruiting: bring back the farmboys and make ND a power team again. Nothing like power football in college. . .

Go Northern Arizona! Sorry had to get that out of the way. What I want to know is who's gonna be a sleeper and can squeeze into the BCS conversations by the end of the year?
