how much is my computer worth
Hey everyone,
I built my computer about 2 years ago and I am thinking of selling it. What price sounds good? the computer works perfectly, nothing wrong, like Brandnew. Here are the specs...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.4Ghz P4 (mobo can hold up to 3.0HT)
16x DVD+-RW
8x CDRW (only in because I wanted more than 1 CD Drive)
3.5 Floppy
10/100 Lan
ATI Radeon 9200se
ATI TV Wonder Tuner with Remote (VIVO)
120GB Western Digital 7200rpm
40GB Maxtor 7200rpm
768 DDR 400mhz RAM (1x512 Corshair and 1x256 Kingston)
4x 80mm UV Reactive Fans
500 watt PSU
Raidmax Scorpio Case
Soundblaster 32bit AWE Soundcard
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
could someone give me a good market price on that???
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
then also if I included the following:
17" Sony LCD
Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite (Wireless Keyboard + Wireless Mouse) *keyboard has fingerprint reader*
Radioshack Wireless Headphones
Lexmark Z715 Printer
Flat Panel Speakers
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
thanks!!!

Re: how much is my computer worth
Honestly.. I wouldn't think you could get more than 600 bucks. Anything used in the computer industry has horrible resale value no matter how good it is. Personally.. I would hang on to it.

Re: how much is my computer worth
What is the make and model of the CD and DVD burners?
Are the HDDs 2MB or 8MB cache? IDE or SATA
What mobo, make and model?
PSU make and model? Well mostly the maker.
Age of the system and what kind of abuse (gaming, graphics, web surfing, whatever pushed it the most and how much) has it gotten would also help.

Re: how much is my computer worth
wow, the DVD-drive is the only thing thats better than my computer (8x, boohoo to me)
hmm, the Sony LCD is $500 brand-new (last I checked) so you could 250 or so for that, the wireless keyboard set is like 20-30 used I guess. The computer its self.... the P4s with > 3.2 ghz can barely hold their own against Athlons. So being at 2.4, that's a big minus. The RAM is great, the video and sound cards are real iffy but I'd say they're on the same par as the processor.. The harddrives are great though, they'd be worht individually around $25 for the Maxtor and $50 or even more for the WD 120GB harddrive.
600 bucks sounded like a good estimate, you might be able to pull off a few more, but yeah, most of the value in that comptuer comes from the screen.
Question, why are you selling this all? Upgrading to all better stuff?

Re: how much is my computer worth
Thanks Everyone for all your input. I think Im prolly just gonna hang on to is as my third PC. I was originally gonna sell it to put it towards another computer but Im just gonna get a new one anyway. The new Black Sony Vaio's (R Series) are amazing, and I love the look and quietness of them...

Re: how much is my computer worth
Personally me.. I'd just have it there for shits and giggles. Nah really I'd turn it into a server or a 'fuck me over box'
I have a fuck me over box - installed linux in it... Bascially when ever something fucks up I'm not stressing cause thats the point of the box... to get fucked up

Re: how much is my computer worth
Check ebay, aftermarket is tough for desktops, I would probably say about $350 - $450 for the computer and about $300 more for the rest of the stuff. Just my 2cents, but it's tough with all of Dell's friggin deals.

Re: how much is my computer worth
Yea but Dell's little deals they have going on suck majorly. Those computers say they have all this stuff in them but they suck really bad. I have a friend that bought a Dell and it has 1024 RAM, 128 MB vid card, and 160 GB HD and all sorts of little goodies that sound good.. but I was on it and the mouse lags, and just has a feeling of weakness. My computer's nothing big, just AMD processor and 512 DDR RAM and 60 GB HD but it feels beastly. I don't know how to explain the feeling of a computer.

Re: how much is my computer worth
Yeah, OEM's sell with numbers...I once had a friend who got a new HP, now this was a few years ago and they were impressed that they got it at the price they did with a 1.5 GHz P4 and 512 MB RAM (which was huge 3 years ago.) Turns out the RAM was PC133 (the P4 was originally designed to use 800 MHz RDRAM) and the video adapter SHARED this slow ass memory...
The numbers were impressive, but my 600 MHz Athlon with a Vodoo 3 was faster.
As for new ones, they still cut corners like that (in the details) and they also cheap out on the motherboard and various other IMPORTANT things...
...the motherboards in these computers really burn me (I used to service them). I mean, it's the motherboard...if these people made cars it'd be like putting a crappy, poorly cooled, nylon geared auto transmission behind a 400 horsepower V8...yeah, it's got a lot of power, but the power's got no where to go!
