Great Start for the Yankees...

Ole Steinbrener is just loving what he overpaid team is doing. I think they will pull it together and get better but right now they suck.

Do yall think a team with that high a payroll should always be one of the top contenders?

I think if if a team forks over that much money for players, they should have the best of the best and should be a contender for the title every year, start to finish of the season.

Re: Great Start for the Yankees...

It is not necessarily always true that the highest payroll is a top contender....Look at the NBA, the Knicks are at the top of the payroll, and they went 33-49 this year....I know it is different for baseball, but I do not follow baseball so I couldn't really comment using a baseball example. I couldn't find the link, but there are lots of teams atop the nba payroll that didn't make the playoffs. I'll try to find it and post it for you all.

The higher payrolls should always be contenders or someone should lose their job. But don't count them out, its a long season. Glad to see the O's doing well, though.

The Yankees will be fine. They always are. They did something similar last year and got back on track later on. By the way I hate the Yankees, but they are always around in the end.

Ah yes. The team everybody loves to hate. I was born and raised a Yankee fan, so I know what it's like to be a part of the "Evil Empire". I agree with chiaroscuro though, the Yankees tend to do this. They don't meet expectations early in the year (like the early season really matters in MLB anyway), then manage to get into the postseason. See you guys in the fall.

Re: Great Start for the Yankees...

I just think it is sooo satisfying to see the Yankees with a losing record in April, the only better thing would be to see them with a losing record in August

Now they go a revamp thier line-up putting Bernie on the bench and moving Matsui to center and Womack to LF. And they still get their ass kicked tonight by Tampa Bay.

Re: Great Start for the Yankees...

If this keeps up, Georgie will be looking for a fall guy. He should look right in the mirror. Over the hill, un-flexible and overpaid talent does not win championships.
