Nvidia vs. ATI
Hey, I was just wondering where people sided on the issue. I've been a NVIDIA guy for the past 4 years, but I've known quite a few people that swear by their ATI cards. I upgraded to a 6800 GT a few months ago and love it. Where do you stand?

Re: Nvidia vs. ATI
All this is going to do is start an agreement as to which is better.
It doesn't matter, they are both great card makers and the only 2 GFX card makers that anyone cares about even though there are others out there.

Re: Nvidia vs. ATI
I used to swear by Nvidia, the main thing that won me over was taht they fuckng build cards for the military. If the military trust them, then I trust 'em. However, take a look at the market share for the past few years, Nvidia used to onw somwehre near 90% of the market and thats slipped not to less than 70%. I have a GeForce FX 5900? (I know its 5950 made by Asus, not sure of the exact produc #) and it cost 100$ more than ATI 6800 (at the time I got it, January, 2004), yet the benchmark test show the Radeon 6800 in a comfortable margin of lead. So I'm a bit shakey now about Nvidia, I was happy as hell when they came out of the next generation of cards that blew away every otehr card, then within a month ATI releases one that is comparable or even better than so. Oh well, lik ewolf 68k said, they're both good; expect that most games are written specifically with Nvidia in mind, so I'm sticking to Nvidia for the moment b/c thats what I have.
PS: Didn't Nvidia make a dual-processor Graphics card? The advancement of thise things are becoming more significant than processors, its just simply amazing.

Re: Nvidia vs. ATI
I've had this ATI Radeon 9600 Pro with 256MB of ram since last summer/fall sometime, and have had no problems. Graphics are simply great. The game I play most has nvidia logo's, if there's some graphic i'm missing out on, I'd be surprised. IMO, either will serve ya well. Go with whichever has the best deal when you shop around.

Re: Nvidia vs. ATI
Personally I'm a Nvidia fan.. I have some cheap 64mb chip but still it get's the job done. On one of my other computer's I have a 64mb ATI card, but the Nvidia seems to pop more for me.

Re: Nvidia vs. ATI
Bleh
As for as the dual processor video card, it's close. They've come out with something called SLI for boards with PCI-Express. Basically it lets you put in two video cards and it will run from both of them, much like a dual processor computer. I don't really know too much about it, but from what I hear it sounds pretty sweet. I'd love to check it out, but it's probably one of the more expensive routes you can take for performance. But at the same time, I hear that ATI's Radeon X850 XT can provide comparable performance in some games to a board with SLI and dual 6800 GT's. Not entirely sure on the specifics, but that's what I hear.

Re: Nvidia vs. ATI
Sad part is it doesnt matter... buy something today and in three months its old news... I did read that the ATI 9600 card is going to be priced at $99 to compete with some lower end Nivida cards... that is a sweet price for an awsome card
