How do I find out what type of memory my computer takes. I'm running a sony viao from 02. I have 256mb now, thinking about upgrading to 512mb or 1gb
thanks in advance

Re: Upgrading memory
You need to know what the motherboard is
Get Everest Home Edition http://www.lavalys.com/products/dow...p?pid=1&lang=en
...everything you've ever wanted to know about your system spec, but were afraid to ask.
It'll also tell you what kind of memory is in now, but knowing your motherboard make and model you can look it up at the maker's site and find out what all kinds it can take and how much it'll support.
If you have the motherboard manual, that'll work too....but still get Everest never know what you'll learn from it or when you'll need it.

Re: Upgrading memory
Look at sony's web site or in manual for upgrades or something. Also some OEM parts actually have a sticker with the part number that you can google and see what comes up or if your lucky it may even tell you what it is on the chip.

Re: Upgrading memory
Do you know what kind of processor you have? If so, you can figure out the appropriate speed of memory to buy. I'm guessing you'll be looking for PC2100 or PC2700 DDR. Just a hunch though.

http://www.crucial.com/
You can find a lot of info about your computer from this website. All you need to know is the brand and model number. The website will let you know the max memory you can have in that computer and what kind you'll need to buy.

Re: Upgrading memory
www.Kingston.com has a good site to get you started... If it is a Sony just follow the drop downs.. Crucial is most likley cheaper but the Kingston site is easy to start out on... also look for a freeware program called AIda32 ...it is program that will tell you everything and more about your PC... as far as the memory goes get as much as the $$ will allow. Since W2K you cant have too much memory - Windows 98 had a limit of a gig or two... you can get too much for XP but I dont think you motherboard will handel it...

Re: Upgrading memory
ADIA32 is dead. It's now Everest.
