You may or may not know that Senator Rick Santorum introduced legislation to repeal the beer tax. He's done so numerous times, but it has never passed. Beer is still taxed as a luxury item. The luxury tax has been rolled back on yachts, private jets and other luxury items, but not beer.

Actually, I dont even think embrace is the right word. More like revel in their own stupidity. It seems more and more like the average person is really living in the "1984" philosophy that ignorance is strength. I would really be curious to find out how many Americans could actually find Iraq on a map before we started to bomb it, or perhaps how many Americans actually knew what part of the world Afghanistan was in before we sent troops there. Hell, I wonder how many people can even find America on a world map. My guess would be that the number gets lower and lower every year.

My personal opinion is that in the 08 election, we need to step away from the practice of embracing mediocre intelligence. Perhaps this time, people could actually research 'facts' quoted by candidates instead of buying whatever the campaign commercials say: 'Kerry is a Communist' *cue scary music*... 'So, Bush is a Fascist...' *clip of people marching*...

I wonder what is behind people embracing ignorance these days. The people that honestly thought before the Iraqi war that Iraq had something to do with 9/11... the people who thought that Kerry would eliminate guns if he was elected... even the people that refer to Bush as a Nazi (ok... i despise Bush and all, but Nazi might be a smidge to harsh...). No one even flinches anymore when they hear someone let lose one of these absolutely absurd comments because it's so common to hear them.

Oh, on a sidenote... if anyone does know of anywhere that has numbers for people that could find Iraq on a map and stuff like that, definately let me know... I would be curious as hell to find out. :happycow:

Oh, and back on topic. Feingold all the way for me. The only Senator that voted against the Patriot Act. He (along with McCain) actually tried to do something about campaign finance reform. Every year he returns the pay raise he gets to the treasury. Voted against NAFTA. And, he actually has the guts to stand up for his viewpoints, which is certainly commendable these days (especially for a Democrat... )

I thought it was interesting how it was noted that Hilary Clinton would be embraced by the female majority of voters - I remember in college how that was a multiple choice question (that I got WRONG) about what women voters wanted in a leader. Apparently, scientifically speaking, women usually vote for the male candidate when put up against a female.

Obama all the way. He is too loved by the public. And he has the brain to run the country. The democrats need a strong runner in 08 and Obama will be the man. He isnt an unknown IL senator. The whole nation knows him. I didnt even know who the hell Dean was untill he was running. Its about time we get someone who will know whats good for the country back in office and fix what the bush administration has done. We need to get an alternative fuel source FAST because once the oil runs out... we wont be a world power anymore.. why not get another source, so when the oil does run out, all the other countrys will have jack shittt. and we will have the new shit to sell to everyone!!!! yeahh we will be on top again. Not to mention how good it will be for the enviroment

oh yeah, and get stem cell research into full play so we can grow organs and repair currently unrepairable cells.

it will definitely be an interesting election, but everyone does know there are 3 elections before that, the presidential race is important but so are the off years, people really need to become more involved in off presidential election years

clinton the president instead of obama because she ran the white house for 8 years while billy boy was out fuckin every hole he could find. either way i dont want her, it would make me crazy. obama kind of reminds me of, in a way, a young jesse jackson, young, highly touted as the next big thing, BLACK and "doing good for the poor." give him a few years and he can probably be awesome. this is a diehard ticket. you have women and blacks. then after she won for the 8 years, GOD SAVE US, obama would have mega-experience and could go out, and probably win, in 2016 and 2020. 16 years of shit. but that would be the best play by the democrats. its unstoppable.

now the repubs. who out there would not like to see giuliani and hilary. everyone thought bush/gore in 2000 was bad, could you guys imagine giuliani/clinton. the battle for NY. and condoleeza rice. that is a no brainer she is a woman, hello, and black, hello. i know she said she wouldnt run...but i think she will. and plus, condy is so nice, how can you not like her.

I know he doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of winning, but I would vote for Jesse Ventura if the state of Oklahoma would let me (It's too damn hard to get a third party on the ballot here). I don't know if he's still considering running, but he said he might when he came and spoke at our campus. The really surprising part to me was that he wanted Charles Barkley as his running mate.

anyways. In all honesty. Obama is too black for many people. I like him, but a lot of people won't accept him. Hillary and Rice are women. Mccain is too centrist, who I like too. I don't think Guliani will run.. he might get a nomination though. Feingold is Jewish, although he might have the correct views to get through the primaries. Voting against the Patriot Act is good, but a few other things he does are a little too dem for me...

Dammit people, stop disqualifiying candidates because of their color, religion, and gender. Seriously. We've been doin the whole white, (predominately) Christian, male thing for a couple hundred years already. I personally think it's time for something new.

Im all for finding the smartest guy for the job regardless of politic boundaries... but a lot of people aren't
