Alright I feel retarded. I am not exactly the smallest guy but not that large. I'm like 5 11 and bout 240 but im big from football. When ever im at a house party and shit. I see a girl and I want to go up and start a convo with her but I always feel retarded cuz i can't really get a convo goin cuz i dont know how to start it. I always end up being retarded and shit. Any advice?

Can you pull off cute and funny, with a little twist of "oh shucks"? If you can make a girl laugh, you've pretty well got it sewn up.

I know it sounds cliche, but just be you. Don't try to talk about things you don't know about or be a show off or do things out of character to act all macho and cool. Compliments are good, if they aren't over the top.

I'm sure the boys here will show up any minute with a ton of "tried and true" pickup lines to offer you.

haha its not about a "oneliner" or anything, the best approach is to choose your... target.. for lack of a better word... wisely. I always tend to talk around to a whole lot of people at a party early on. As soon as you can find an attractive girl who you have easy conversation with, the key is to make her feel comfortable, that she is control. Basically, you're going to be talking, maybe brush her arm and bring your hand back, just kinda light touches until she responds (maybe brushes your arm or leg in response), that's your cue to kind of move on, maybe leave your arm around her shoulders for a few seconds, take it off (of course, this requires some slickness of motion to avoid looking wierd for moving your arm around like that) until she maybe puts her arm around you. Then kind of move your head to where you're kinda kissing her, maybe brush her cheek, wait for response, etc. once you get to that, you're pretty much good to go.

Now of course, some girls don't respond to this tactic quite the way you want. Obviously, humour, a common subject, any good conversation is the way to go. If you think she wants to go further but is waiting for you in the early stages, try to skip a step or something, some girls dont like to take control. At any rate, the idea of this strategy is to keep you in control (keep things moving along) while keeping the girl comfortable. I've never had a girl regret hooking up with me (although for me there was this time with beer goggles and... ok nevermind) and never really messed up once I really got to talking to a girl (not to say Im 100% or anything at all, but I do pretty well)

while this may seem kind of ridiculously detailed... it's only because this was the way I've always worked, and in conversations with my friends, kinda panned out how to explain it.

Main Points
1) being boring is infinitely worse than being ugly
2) stay in control, but let the girl think she is (not to say take advantage or anything, but you have to keep things moving along)
3) PICK THE RIGHT PERSON.

don't just walk up to attractive girl A and start a convo, talk around for a while, get the lay of the land, maybe find out something about a girl you want to talk to, maybe she's in a class you took/are taking/will take. It's all about confidence, and comfort

Problem 1 - You are trying to pick up girls at a party.
Problem 2 - You are trying to be someone other than yourself.

Be yourself and forget about the whole party thing.

Don't start off thinking, "yeah, I'm gonna fuck this chick tonight." Just talk... if she's easy to talk to, you'll know soon enough whether or not she wants you. And hell, if she's easy to talk to, but you're not her type or whatever, you might just make a friend.

Have to agree with everyone above also, just be yourself.

Just let it all come to you...go say hey, think of something you may have in common to talk about like classes. Ask her where shes from, etc...you may find a convo topic. If it doesnt seem to flow, it's not gonna happen. With hicks that are gonna lead to further involvement, the convo is comfortable from the start.
