Moneyball
I'm sure all baseball fans have had this discussion, but I was just wondering from you what your take on the absurd salaries in baseball. Should baseball institute a salary cap?

Re: Moneyball
I would be good for the sport. They could get their own finances in order and quit sucking the taxpayers dry for new stadiums. Plus the competition would be better because their would be parity.

Re: Moneyball
Yeah, it's great for taxpaying fans to fund a new stadium with new luxury boxes that 98% of them will never see. Then the team charges : $5 - beer / $4 - hot dog / etc., etc. Ticket prices also go through the roof. Why??? So they can afford to pay some prima donna $20mil/season so he can hit below .300. No....they don't need a salary cap. Why would they?

Re: Moneyball
Alright heres what i have to say: fuck baseball. that "sport" is broing as hell. if you can play it and smoke at the same time its not a sport.
here's my proposed changes:
1) Rubber ball and metal bat= more home runs
2) base man are allowed to play defense (baseball becomes contact sport)
3) Pitch clock (no more than 75 seconds between pitches, after play dies of course
4) Pitchers must bat (I don't even watch baseball and i know the designated hitter must go)
5) Time limit to innings
6) Larger ball(Not that much just enough that batting averages for the league get about .300 or .400.
7) Cheerleaders(i mean come on!?!)
8) Cut season in half (not in length but in games, who cares about one game when you play 180 of them?)
9) Cheerleaders
10) More drinking (especially by players)
Alright I'm drunk, but i still think thatd make an interesting game. Hell I'd watch. And get drunk.

That would be one hell of an interesting game alright! Maybe you should patent it and try and get it on Spike TV, like Slamball!

Slamball is awesome. I would if I could get some support. It'd come on right after the beerpong with hopefully some of the same players.

Re: Moneyball
your drunken ramblings did bring up some good points Bigeme, a pitch-clock would be a great idea. Also, i think drinking cheerleaders would totally rock.

Re: Moneyball
haha I'm serious about that though. I've talked with some people in real life about it and they all think its stupid. I'm gonna post a vote in bottom of the hole and see if people would actually watch it.

Re: Moneyball
If you let a MLB player use a metal bat or hit a rubber ball...
1) you would not have to increase the size of the ball... the players would hit almost every pitch out...
2) players wouldn't be able to survive in the infield... the ball would come at them at an amazingly fast pace and probably injur or kill them...
This idea is humorous for a video game, but not in real life.
If you want an aluminum bat and a rubber ball, go play some stick ball in the street or something, not in a stadium...

Re: Moneyball
There should be a salary cap in baseball, but the owners would never let that happen. Most of the owners are cheap baseball fans. I hate the Yankees, but George is not afraid to spend money. I give him alot of credit. He takes chances and spends the money to get returns. Most owners try to build a team cheaply. If thats the case, they shouldn't be owning teams. We need more owners like Mark Cuban and George, since the whole salary cap thing will never happen.
