other computor crashed

I am not the smartest when it comes to computors, so bare with me. My desktop computor will not open windows and it goes to a blue screen saying it has gone to this screen to save computor from further damages.
I can't reboot it cause it has windows xp prof. and I no longer have that disk, it was lost in the move. My question how do I go about loading windows 98 in to it ? I do have that disk, now easy on me now like I said I am new to the world of repairing and programming of computors. Thank you in advance

You can always reformat your hard drive to make sure your hard drive is not having the issues. To reformat your hard drive you need the software for it. Just look on your hard drive and find the name of the company who makes it and what model it is along with the size of hard drive. You can then go to there website and get a download for that hard drive to reformat it. If you want to do this. Its just my 2 cents.

I have tried this but the computor will not read anything. On the blue screen it says t
unmountable_boot_volume then down at the bottom it has
technical inforation:

I just can't get it to do anything

Can you run in DOS mode? You might have a cylinder on your hard drive not working.

what type hard drive do you have? Who makes it , model name, model number, what size?

can not get into bios or not doing the right thing to make it go to bios

go to this site and download the program onto floppy it will basically reformat your hard drive.

depending on the make of the motherboard you either have to hit the delete key upon start up or F12 those are the common ones.

Ummm guys... mate i'm not sure if you can, but cna you start in windows safe mode? (hit ctrl+break when xp is 'loading')

If you have installed drivers/hardware or installed new programs lately, those might be the cause of your vowes - if you can get into safe mode then uninstall the drivers / programs you put on prior to the computer crashing.

Alternatively there is system restore, (again if you can boot into safemode) which will roll back your comp to its original settings.


If that doesnt work, there is the linux live CD called knoppix, google round for it or ask a geek (meant respectfully), it will boot your system up and you'll be able to move your files off your computer so that you dont lose anything (i havent tried it but i have read about the process).

The final resort is always the format
