hi guys i wanna learn to play the guitar, amongst other things, this yeaar.

are there any tips that you could give me, like how did you learn, books, lessons or just praticing on your own.

im only interested in acoustic guitar at the moment. when my wife gets pregnant i want to be able to serenade the baby, so that when its born i will be able to calm it with a familiar sound. I know its a gay reason to learn a guitar, but hey im in touch with my feminine side.

any thoughts would be much appreciated.

yeah i play the quitar if u really wanna learn i think u should go to musiciansfriend.com and get the squier starter pack the frontman one its really good for begginners thats what i got i still use it today when u first get it learn some easy ass songs like smoke on the water 7 army nations whatever its called james bond and go to mxtabs.com net for tabs

not a bad suggestion, but I think the best way to go is with a used guitar... so far I own 3 guitars (a hamer, a yamaha, and an epiphone) and i've paid a total of 290 bucks.

as far as tab sites go, i use www.guitartabs.cc it's worked fine for me thus far. What I've done to learn everything is just learn bits and pieces from songs and slowly but surely you improve a bit...

Most importantly, dont give up... I've been playin like 3 1/2 years and I still suck ass. You probably wont get good overnight (unless your last name happens to be Hendrix)

I've played guitar for over 10 years and played in various punk bands and bar bands since '97 and I can give you this for advice.
Don't take lessons, that will just confuse you and take all the fun and pleasure out of it. Get a guitar, sit down and just start playing along with the music you listen to every day. Over time you'll start writing your own music, but this is the best way to learn (my opinion). There is nothing wrong with getting an electric to start with, but I would recomend getting yourself an acoustic as well (or instead, you can allways upgrade). The good thing about an acoustic is that you can just grab it and play. You don't have to turn it on, plug it in, set your volume, set up E.Q. and whatever effects you use with your rig, ect. Musiciansfriend.com has a very nice Washburn acoustic for about $100. I got this one just to have a cheap guitar that I didn't have to worry about getting fucked up, and I love playing it so much I hardly plug in my main rig anymore.
But when you do get an electric and plug in to play, turn it up fucking loud. Thats the only way to fly. :rock:

If you want a beginners guitar that still kicks ass I'd go with the squier. Very nice feel yet so very cheap.

I started playing guitar about 5 months ago. Learn G, C, and D chords and you'll be able to pla tons of songs. I hae learned that you'll only get out what you put in. Takes time pateince, and lots of practice, but you'll be able to do it.

I had a squier, it was nice to play, I was actually sad to see it go a few weeks ago, but I bought a Les Paul, so, it was quickly forgotten

P.S - About lessons, I really think it helped. I got a cool guy, who liked the same music. I just told him that I really didn't want to learn the theory, (the reasons why the notes are what they are, worthless stuff like that) and he just teaches me different techiniques. I did go back later and learn some of the scales and such, they're cool for solos.
