I hope he takes the games in a new direction. I know people love the final fantasy series but they are all basically rehashed versions of the previous. I think more people would buy them if the gameplay was a little faster, some new way to do the turn based part of the games. I am looking foward to see what they have in store.

Unless he himself owns the rights to Final Fantasy, it is staying a Square-Enix product. And seeing as FFXII is in production (real time combat system ala Star Ocean 3) I don't think it is going to have much of that Final Fantasy feel. They just need a new idea instead of Clueless kid meets girl too good for him, they get together and save the world. MEH. New idea is needed that's all and I don't think he could hack it any more or the rest of Square Enix couldn't handle him.
