(not sure if this has been debated yet or not...but....)

Anyway...they have determined that there is a connection between the two. Do you think that if anyone is cruel to animals that it is safe to say they would have the same cruelty towards humans? What are your views??

No.

Some people have the view that animals are for aggression or fighting, and do it for money. Those people tend to treat their animals like shit (from what I know) to piss them off and help train them to be like that.

I think it would be safe to say people seperate the two completely. If someones a dick and wants to treat people in a cruel way.. I'm sure they're going to treat anything like that.

Re: animal cruelty/human cruelty

Serial killers have all typically started on animals. Most people who would watch cock-fights, would watch men duking it out and possibly killing eachother if they could get away with it.

There is a definite corralation!

Damn, I really really hate it when I agree with what Jimi says. (J/K)

I believe there to be some corralation. It is a dominance thing.

Re: animal cruelty/human cruelty

I think the correlation has been fairly well studied and documented. A quick Google search for "correlation between animal cruelty and human cruelty" turned up a number of reports, studies, news reports, etc. I only say this b/c I don't think I'm allowed to post off-site links yet (not enough posts).

On a kind of strange sidebar (which is ever so slightly off-topic), depictions of human cruelty typically don't bother me, depending upon the severity. I guess it's a de-sensitization thing, after having seen so much violence over the years, both in real life and on television and in the movies. However, depictions of animal cruelty simply turn my stomach. Even in movies and on television (and even books) it bothers me very deeply.

Strange, I can go to crime scene and see a dead body (or multiple, unfortunately) and still do my job, but animals being hurt makes me cringe. I stopped watching "The Shield" for that very reason, b/c a character was going over the edge and killed a cat, essentially just to see it die. That was too much.

Classic (probably twisted?) example is Bret Easton Ellis' book "American Psycho." None of the brutal killings bothered me, because I know it's just fiction. But when he stomped on that dog's legs, it pissed me off.

Sorry for the rambling

Re: animal cruelty/human cruelty

From my experiences, of which I have several actually, people never hate ALL animals or ALL humans, but many who hate types of one hate types of the other. I know cockfighters, and many of those are the kind to beat the shit out of anyone who pisses them off even slightly. My best friend is notorious for being cruel to his pets, albeit nothing big, but he's worse to other humans as well. Dog chews up his pants, he kicks it across the room. Human steals his pants, he kicks it repeatedly until they're bleeding. He doesn't really give a damn who or what you are, you just don't wanna cross him.

I'm the same kinda but FAR less intense, as the only time I've actually hurt an animal or person is in self defense.

Re: animal cruelty/human cruelty

I don’t think that if you are cruel to animals you will definitely be cruel to humans, but I’d wager there is an extremely high likelihood of it. Same thing goes if you’re cruel to humans. You would probably have a propensity towards cruelty to animals.
