help (and suggestions) needed
Ok, I'm on a college network and whoever is in control of IT (we call it LIS, Library and Information Services) is a fucking cum-stain. So this 50-year old fuck who puts his dick into computers has this old world (beyond old school...) idea that all network activety on the campus network should only be purely for academic research. If whoever this queef was had everything his way, EVERYTHING: AIM, any multi-player game you can think of, all of it would be blocked, leaving only port 80 for http and 69 for the duestchface. Thank god he doesn't and it prolly won't get to be that far, but anyways they alreayd have blocked all ports about 60,000. period. so some xbox live games and some of the newer multi-player games don't work. Also, all the file-sharing programs I can think of have been blocked as well, getting music and games is no problem at all for me (thank you myTunes) but if I want a game or movie or program that no one I know doesn't have, it'd be fucking nice to use bit-torrent or any of that shit. So, I have three ideas as to how I'm going to get around this 1) I've basically been hired in advance by LIS and am due to start working for them in a few months, once I due I establish myself and reputation and then engineer a coup...the only problem is that takes too long (2) me and 3 other friends completly FUCK the system until our demands are met, or we simply hack it and set things back to normal. We''re definately capable of pulling it off, it seems we only have one shot at it though without getting traced. But if we're caught its automatic expelusion so that isn't too desirable (3) completly legal and untraceble. I set up a proxy and connect to someone that has a cable, DSL or any broadband connection, is not charged by the MB by their company, and always leave thier computer on (I do that at home so I'd do it for myself...but oh well) The way the proxy works is it connects to the outside host at whatever port that isn't blocked and b/c the oustide host has access to ports I don't, it could allow me to use bit-torrent or what not. So is there anyone out there that would like to allow me to connect to them for say...an hour at a time or whenver the hell I need it and wouldn't mind at all? (hardly slows down your computer....at least mine) anyone, its a long shot, but worth it
also, any other suggestions as to what I can do?>

Re: help (and suggestions) needed
so let me get this straight... you're mad that some "duestchface" wants the campus owned network used for campus-related network traffic only?
If I had a heart, I'd probably say some shit about how you should appreciate that he is just doing his job. But I don't have a heart. Fuck him.
The proxy is a decent idea, but the guy will probably notice the increased traffic coming to your connection (if no one else can use bit torrent, then the 10's of gigs each month coming to you will probably be suspect). Your best bet may be to hack the system, and set up an 802.11g access point. That way, if they find it, it can't be traces. A shitty 802.11g router is like $40 now, so it's not like its a lot of money out of pocket. Depending on how he locked down the network you may need router passwords, etc... you sound experienced enough to pull it off, but could you do it in practice?
Maybe it IS best to wait, but remember that if you do it when you work there you're just that much more likely to be a suspect if they find out.

Re: help (and suggestions) needed
to further emphasize my situation. we all LIVE on the campus, 24/7 as long as we have classes. To make it academic only is rediculus, b/c that guy doesn't live on campus, he has his own house where he can go home and probably jack off to porn every night laughing at how the only website I can go to is the school's library. (not yet, but the steps he proposed sure head in that direction) In addition to that, we all pay for his salary and the campus network. Its not like a corporate network where people go there only when they work and anything non-corporate related will interefere with their work, restricted the campus-network is getting in the way of our lives. Oh shit, I'm sorry, I completly misread what you were saying, I thought you actually meant the appreciate his job things, lol. that was tangent and a half.
What do you think about using a port-scanner? might that work?

Well.. I hate to take his side.. but, you know why he blocks all that shit.. so.. I'm not even going to far in detail. To much shit out there is a security risk, file sharing and AIM programs are the worst. There are to many things on a school network that they wanna keep private and keep locked down.
Your only chance for hope is to wait it out.. or risk it.. and hack. Considering the type of job I have and my status.. I would recommend you to take the legal route and live with what you have.
Why don't you just establish a proxy and surf whatever sites you want through a 3rd party website? There are plenty out there..

Re: help (and suggestions) needed
ok, I somewhat agree with you. I just feel there should be a fair trade-off between "security" and "freedom." The only way you can make a network completly secure is by blocking every port. To just randomly cut off every port > 60000, blocking perfectly legit programs for recreation isn't fair. I had this discussion on a school forum and then someone was like, "well someone can attach a trojan to the program and blah blah" There are far simpler ways to hack a network that they don't cover, the main concern is people stupidly opening e-mails that are blatanly suspicious and going to sites that just are plain bad (I took the risk 2 nights ago in search of a crack and I payed the priced :d'oh: But yeah, I'm exagerating a little bit hijacker but shhh, I'm trying to rally support to my cause.
so anyways, tell me about this 3rd party website I can connect with proxy, how would I do this? I never heard about this.
I also have a question out of the blue. How do you like your job, what do you have to do every day? It sounds like somethign I'd love to do though.
and illegal measures are only purely a last resort.

try http://www.primedius.com - it is a 3rd party proxy service that I have used in the past to circumvent my office's blocking efforts. It carries an annual fee, but it is really not that much (I think their decent "Silver" service is like 80/year and you can get it on a monthly basis as well). Check it out to see if it meets your needs - I believe they offer a free trial, but I don't know if the trial is unrestricted.

Primedius is a really good one. I can't seem to find the links to the 4 ones I used to use on occassion (newly built computer). Anyways.. try using Primedius, it works wonders. The fee is worth it.

Re: help (and suggestions) needed
Please help me......
I have very little knowledge regarding computers, and I am in need of some expert advise and guidance.
I got myself in a pickle where my partner is unfaithfull in every possible way, not easy!!
I am as honest as they come with very little experience in the world of lies and deception, I am now in the hands of my fellow webrats - please HELP!
How do I find passwords on his computer and where do I start looking? What I really want is his vodafone account login details which will reveal it all.
I want piece of mind, to put all those horrible lies and head f**ks behind me and free myself from my own mental torture.
I wish him all the best, but i want to know what was going on all this time and with who.
Please help...
