Im looking to buy a dual layer dvd drive off newegg.com, and want to get some dual layer discs. Do any of you know a good place to get a cheap bulk pack of dual layer dvds? Thanks!

Re: Dual Layer Discs
Dual layer discs aren't that cheap yet. The best I've found were 1.82 per disc. Keep and eye on Pricewatch.com That's where I get a lot of my stuff. I've found 4x single layer discs, 200 for 18 dollars I think it was. They get cheaper everyday, so just keep an eye out.

Re: Dual Layer Discs
I agree with tuba, don't go looking for burning dual layer unless there is a need for it. The burners now are incredibly slow and the discs are very expensive. It doesn't make sense at this point. What were your plans with dual layer?

Re: Dual Layer Discs
I agree - I bought one of those $72 drives from Newegg. I'm happy with ther performance but it was a waste of cashola. I wanted to replace a 8x single layer +/- burner with the latest, and now a perfectly good burner sits on a spare PC not being used.
All of the blank DVDs that I buy are 8x single layer. The highest my burner software goes is 8x. And with DVD-Shrink I can burn a... er, "backup" of an existing DVD that I own (ahem) just fine.
By the time dual layer DVDs become available mass-market and cheap, my 16x burner will be outdated as they will probably have a 48x out by then.
I pick up 8x 4.7g Fuji DVDs at BestBuy for $9 a 25 stack. That sounds expensive compared to mail-order, but I buy them as I need them.
DVDs will probably be in the pile with my 8-tracks in about 18 months anyway. Non-moving media storage is coming up the ranks pretty fast.

Re: Dual Layer Discs
i tought that double layer cd are most expensive... betwen 9 and 11 dlls. each ..i'm refering to the 8.5 gb capacity ... the 4.7 are single layer
same here.. got a double layer dvd burner for 70 bucks... but i' do not want to pay that much for the cd's... so basicaly i use it for burning mp3 on dvd (around a 1K mps each)

Re: Dual Layer Discs
I got my DL Burner at Office max 80 bucks with 40 in rebates. I rechecked, and found that the best double layer discs I could find were about 8 bucks each, with the 1.82 I qouted were double sided, not double layered. If you use software such as dvd shrink, it'll compress double layer data(ie, movie discs) Down ot singler layer size. But dom't worry, in a year or two, double layer discs will be the price of single layer discs now, and there'll be firmware updates to make your burner run faster.

Re: Dual Layer Discs
Well i was looking for one to backup those larger movies I have instead of compressing and losing quality. I may stick with my regular drive if the discs run that high! They'll definilty drop in time, but for now ill be ok. Thanks.

Re: Dual Layer Discs
I got the Lite-On SOHW 1633S from Newegg.com (the retail version, not the OEM) and I'm happy with it. I've only just got it and haven't played with it too much. Got a stack of DVD-Rs 8x 100count at the same time, and no problems with them yet.
I know that DVD DL disc will come down in price soon enough, but I had the money now and I wanted to get the thing while I could before I screwed myself out of the chance (I have a habit of doing that in the past). I held onto my Lite-On CD-RW 12x10x32x for a hell of a lot longer than most people would and I'm still happy with it to this day, so even when the price of DVD DL disc and the drive I got come down I won't be missing much.
