As Webrats gets bigger and bigger (thanks to the girls pic section), I think it's time to address a growing concern.

Noobs.

As we all know, everyone is a noob when they first start posting, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't myself (please note past tense)! But with record number of registrations we are having record numbers of noobs. Case in point... look at page 1 and 2 of the girls pic section and count the number of locked threads. Utterly sad if you ask me.
Now the problem with noobs is the fact that they do not read the guidelines to posting... combine that with the many threads here that are demanding responses and you have a reciepe for disaster! Bumping old posts is a no-no and is punishable by death in 12 states! Ok maybe not, but I have noticed dozens of locked threads in the last week that explictly state not to bump old stuff. And yet what happens every single day? More bumpage of old stuff with responses such as:

"I'm forever grateful to you."
"I'd like to take her for a little rumble in the bronx" (?WTF?)
"The dark haired one is an absolute goddess!"
"Nah not really, as mentioned before she's an annoying fuck of a basketcase... the more she speaks the less hot she is. These pics are fantastic, aided by the fact that they don't speak. Love it.

Now keep in mind this isn't even all of the *bumps* from 1 week!!
We get so many new threads created that it's impossible for good threads to remain on page 1 for any length of time. However, the very good threads do stay on page 1 for longer. Hopefully something can be done about this or a sticky can be created that will get the attention of noobs everywhere.

I feel better that I got that off my chest, and since I'm about to fall asleep hopefully that didn't sound like jibberish. (if it did... I don't care)

I think Mfinley, Bongripper, and Hijacker are getting burned out on continually jamming the rules down noobs throats and getting little success.

It sucks...I don't get how hard it is to just abide by the rules(or just be respectful enough to use common sense). The bad thing is that there is little that can be done.

I'm really trying to think of something that would work....

I wonder if there is a way to add something in the script for the Vag only that works something like this..

IF most recent thread response is >48 hours
THEN "close" thread
ELSEIF
null


Basically... once a thread gets no posts in 48 hours.. it automatically closes.. and whatever threads get constant response.. stay up top.. the new ones will have their chance.. and the least popular ones will fall off..

I don't think there is a real answer. Also, the replies you quote really make me question the age of the people posting them. I have sent countless PM's to people explaining that when they bring back old posts it shortens the life span of the new ones and this in turn causes the regular contributors to stop making new threads as few people look at there material.

What also irritates me is when someone bumps up an old Red X post and wonders why they can't see it. One idiot bumped up 5 of these in a row and posted his email for someone to send him the pics.

One regular poster here used to start on the first post and comment on just about everyone down to page two. The result was he wiped out everything new and revived the threads already seen. Despite my PM's for him to stop, he kept at it. Finally he got a clue.

I don't have to lock any threads. I could let them bring back anything they want. If I stop closing threads though, the quality of the board would drop like a rock.

I don't know if the threads can be programmed to autoclose, but they might be programmed to stay in the order they are posted in. Then people can comment all they want without bringing back the dead. The drawback with this is, some threads are continuing, new material is added regularly. So unless they were stickied we would have even more new posts going in the forums. The mods could go and start closing all the old threads, but this is a lot of work and i am not doing it by myself.

I say, just leave it like it is and bash the noobs and lurkers who do this. Throw them neg rep, it helps you because you have to spread rep around before you may give it to those that deserve it. Meanwhile, those of us that see good posts dying early can help revive them before they fall the wayside.

of course one simple solution if someone wants to thank a poster for an old thread, or request more without bumping it up is either:

Give them reputation points and make a comment there

or

Send them a PM.

there is also the problem with too many stickies...they lower the amount of visible normal threads...

also, we kind of contradict ourselves so many times ...

if we post pics or pass lists.... we get frustrated because no one replies.... then we ask them reply or i delete.... that will get more people to post 1 liners... then we complain about that... that confuses people

if we go to the pm to thank a poster... i rather no post in the porn section... i do not want to clean my inbox because of that everyday... i have already enough of the "you are hot", "do you have private pics", 'do you want to have a threesome with me and my gf?" messages

why not make it so that people need to post at least X characters (like 30) so that "hehe" or "thanks" won't go thru. or, limit what people can get into until they have a certain number of posts (like no access to the girls room until you post 25 times elsewhere). Just some thoughts... but I agree that the bumping is annoying.

what about making them read the guidlines and then take a short quiz.

they'd have to get a certain percentage in order to enter....

of course those that do post material and see it die fast could also help by PM'ing the noobs that the bumps are killing their new work, even if it is their stuff that got the bump.

having more stickies just increases size of page, it doesn't push threads back to page 2.
