Speeding up firefox

I see alot of people out there switching over to mozilla firefox cause of how good it is over ie. Well if you want the most out of it you should speed it up and this where I will show you how. Just follow this and you will be all set.

**Please note that you can configure it faster or slower depending on your bandwidth.**

1. type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

firefox typically makes one request to a webpage at a time. enable pipelining will make it do several at once, which really gives you a speed boost.

2. alter the entries as follows:

set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 5. This means it will make 5 requests at once.

3. right-click anywhere and select new -> integer. name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". this value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

close and reopen firefox and there you have it (not sure if you actaully have to close and reopen firefox for the new settings to take effect, but it certainly won't hurt anything).

it should load pages a bit faster now

Also, download prefbar, it lets you turn things off like animation of images, flash, java, send referrer http://prefbar.mozdev.org/...

Re: Speeding up firefox

Mind if I clean up this some what lengthy and a little confusing tweak, plus add a few more things that can really help speed things up?

Basic Settings for ALL users
* Set the value of network.http.pipelining to "true".
* Set the value of network.http.pipelining.maxrequests to "8".
* Set the value of network.http.proxy.pipelining to "true"

Fast Broadband (Cable/DSL/LAN)
* Set the value of network.http.max-connections to "48".
* Set the value of network.http.max-connections-per-server to "16".
* Set the value of network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy to "16"
* Set the value of network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server to "8"

Slow Narrowband (Dialup)
* Set the value of network.http.max-connections-per-server to "8".
* Set the value of network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy to "8".
* Set the value of network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server to "4".
* Set the value of dom.disable_window_status_change to "true".

I don't suggest the tweak they do of; Set the value of browser.xul.error_pages.enabled to "true" for me this was more annoying than helpful
